刻画无盐的典故

战国时代，在齐国无盐那个地方（今山东省东平县东），有一位女子，姓钟离，名春，容貌长得特别丑陋，多次选择丈夫，都没有成功。四十岁时，她去见齐宣王，向齐宣王指出了齐国当时的一些问题，并提出了自己的主张。齐宣王敬佩他的才能，便娶她为王后，封她为“无盐君”。

后来，人们就把“无盐”作为丑女的代称，如同把“西施”作为美女的代称一样。无盐和西施，一个极丑，一个极美，简直无法相比！如果竟把她们两人相提并论，那就是把丑的抬得太高，把美的贬的太低了。

《晋书·周顗（yǐ）传》载：周顗，字伯仁，晋元帝时，历任“尚书左仆射”，朝中官宦认为他为人高洁，把他比做乐（yuè）广。乐广是当时被人们认为高洁的人物，有“乐翁冰清”的赞语。但是周顗却认为乐广根本不能与他相比，因此，当庾亮告诉他有人把他比作乐广时，他并不高兴，说道：“何乃刻画无盐，唐突西施也！”以丑比美，比得不恰当，而且因此亵渎了美好的人物，就叫做“刻画无盐，唐突西施”
