战国时期，孟子带学生去齐国，提了建议不被采纳就离开齐国，齐王送他100金，他推辞不受。而到了宋国却接受70金，到了薛国接受50金。学生陈臻对此不解，这两种行为对错二者必居其一。孟子耐心地分析当时的具体情况，陈臻认为有道理。
