唐朝时期，御史大夫柳宗元因为过失而被贬至柳州刺史，他在柳州忧郁不得志而死。文学家韩愈见好友被小人进谗言而替他打抱不平，为他写墓志铭深刻揭露那帮落井下石的人，同时也提醒世人要警惕那些平时指天发誓掏心窝的人。
