汉宣帝时期，大将军霍光封宣帝做平民时所娶的妻子许平君为婕妤，将自己的幼女嫁给宣帝准备立为皇后。宣帝心中不乐意，下令寻求过去作平民时的旧剑，目的明确，立许婕妤为皇后。霍光的妻子霍显买通御医害死许皇后。
