春秋时期，齐国有三个勇士公孙接、田开疆、古冶子，他们居功自傲，蛮不讲理，相国晏婴担心他们会闹事而影响国家安危，建议齐景公赐两个桃子让他们三人论功而食，结果他们有勇无谋，因争吃桃子纷纷自杀身亡。
