捉襟见肘的典故

曾子在卫国的时候，常常三天也做不了一次饭，十年也没做一件衣服，整一整帽子帽带就会断，整一整衣襟胳臂肘就会露出来，可他高唱《商颂》的声音充塞天地之间，象敲响的钟磬。

鲁国国君派人去给他赠送采邑，对他说：“请用采邑的收入做件衣服吧。”曾子不接受，使者又去了，曾子还不接受。使者说：“这不是先生您向国君要求的，而是国君要奉送您的，为什么不接受呢？”曾子说：“接受的人往往害怕赠送的人，赠送的人往往对接受的人表现出骄纵，能不能使国君赠给我采邑而对我不骄纵，我很担心这一点啊 ！”
