基本解释春秋时，吴国大夫伍员劝吴王夫差拒绝越国求和，夫差听信谗言，不从忠告，反赐之剑命自杀。伍员临死，曰：“树吾墓上以梓，令可为器。抉吾眼置之吴东门，以观越之灭吴也。”见《史记·吴太伯世家》。后以“悬门抉目”为烈士殉国的典故。

悬门抉目的典故

春秋时期，吴国大夫伍子胥劝吴王夫差拒绝越王勾践的求和，夫差不但不听，反而听信谗言赐剑令伍子胥自尽。伍子胥临终前万分悲愤地说：“抉吾眼县吴东门之上，以观越寇之灭吴也。”后来越王勾践卧薪尝胆终于灭了吴国。
