鲰生制为测海文，晋卿陋之誇以诗。铿经发图享灵怪，青红满纸声瀰瀰。
天下嚣嚣尽何有，苍公幻化文人嬉。千辉万照在天上，饰为酒斗扬为箕。
又道一星一瀛海，问君彼海潜者谁。鲰生细鳞泳海角，芝麻眼孔真可嗤。
夜深窃听老渔话，骇耳堕心摧四肢。哀哉吾族尽为腊，奔告白虾与蟛蜞。
虾故善跳蜞善走，追潮逐浪能委蛇。笑言先生勿过悴，大海安得无孑遗。
合掌髡头海和尚，船人见之为一炊。百年老蚌与人戏，卧起啼笑如婴儿。
被发娟娟白如雪，不知为妃为孤嫠。见者求之不可得，放船骇立心神痴。
一宵西来百匹马，挟抱文书三面驰。方知吾族万万国，国数百里里有歧。
一歧所产百斯类，屑碎纤靡为世赀。又闻西方产黍稷，杂用花果蒸为醨。
猪牛味浊鸭鸡瘦，纷来吾国求膏脂。吾族大长亦不吝，使吾边族相馈贻。
江头小神正邻我，招我化族驱为鲥。先生固哉好目论，徵彼百老皆小知。
鲰闻骇然不敢信，秉贽去问千年龟。安知潜宫不易到，兼旬直下方见之。
水力压背九鼎重，此水万丈安能支。龟闻叱问尔何者，今我背上才蒙皮。
鱼龙子孙伺我息，攘如细虱多生髭。任氏儿子善戏谑，扪吾左胁擒一鳍。
怀藏吾血不行络，此属挠挠长苦饥。此时鲰生失魂魄，那能重述么么词。
但言公有泰山固，愿匿公脊无颠危。龟闻色惨吁不已，嗟尔锢疾当难医。
瞬此阴阳一开阖，大无止境忧无时。周回此海奚有底，乃是一物横八陲。
此物无名亦无字，字以混沌名穷奇。东潮西落日呼吸，一吸一起方躨跜。
此物日升海日浅，而我当之犹豪釐。暂时蜉蝣在其背，万一转侧斯为爢。
夜夜流星落空阔，但有杯水倾诸池。我将丧我去其介，四足去一权为踦。
一朝化为三足乌，飞人太阳当可羁。生不事此勿相慁，鲰生听罢翻狐疑。
更有蓬心借一语，圣人群籍无公词。咄哉圣人天公各造意，不得千龄万代长相咨。

范当世（1854～1905)）字无错，号肯堂，因排行居一，号伯子。原名铸，字铜士。江苏通州（今南通市）人。清末文学家、诗文名家、桐城派后期作家，也是南通市近代教育的主要倡导者和奠基人之一。光绪时入李鸿章幕府，常相与谈论政事，自负甚高，而终身坎坷。诗多沉郁苍凉之作，著有《范伯子诗文集》。2008年4月16日，“南通范氏诗文世家陈列馆”开馆。
