侯生忽欲东渡海，赠我二十六韵五言诗。高词淳意杂古语，悬知落笔涕下如绠縻。
自言少小失怙恃，京华旅食随群儿。中遭丧乱反乡井，挟书始解为唔咿。
十七北征遘佳运，盐山老宿加磨治。有似西江润涸辙，发棠荒岁周寒饥。
学何常师数到我，报语郑重酬无施。抗颜授徒亦自可，对镜忽尔惭鬓眉。
男儿作健要如舜，头上乌兔忧坐驰。沮洳有鱼岂足脍，拔鲸不见韩退之。
颇闻哲学最高峻，愿登巅顶掀其篱。西深东浅没次第，求道勤苦遑言疲。
橐驼无角奋两耳，汗漫预作廿载期。诗成书纸持见我，再拜伏请加训辞。
我读君诗忽大笑，如此作计宁非痴。即今朝廷议新宪，百度尽变秦以来。
朝植党魁野政党，争立门户方求才。盛年如子更拄腹，随风咳唾霏琼瑰。
但须倚门露肮脏，一蹴可躐九级台。鸡壅豕零有时帝，吾言至信非类俳。
不然椎埋击剽作交会，猎取亿兆兼京垓。丈夫蔗境在倒啖，蔡泽年寿须安排。
奈何弃此都不事，而欲清浅观蓬莱。哲学虽成究何用，徒取造化穷根荄。
天演亦何与汝事，吊诡转使人愁猜。不才鼹饮仅满腹，讵足为子先路开。
虽然一语可忠告，平实乃以基崔巍。譬如沿流下蜀楚，欲达东海先江淮。
质力名数各有事，一一皆与清隅隈。真积力久自通贯，至道呈露无昏埃。
即论近事亦有补，工冶政法咸取材。吁嗟呼，阴阳帅霅五洲沸，欲曰救国诚难哉。
吾今衰老已无用，偷生发背旋黄骀。乞食诸侯岂得已，平生志愿如寒灰。
高歌青眼属吾子，归日谈笑生风雷。

严复（1854.1.8—1921.10.27），原名宗光，字又陵，后改名复，字几道，汉族，福建侯官县人，近代著名的翻译家、教育家、新法家代表人。先后毕业于福建船政学堂和英国皇家海军学院。在李鸿章创办的北洋水师学堂任教期间，培养了中国近代第一批海军人才，并翻译了《天演论》、创办了《国闻报》，系统地介绍西方民主和科学，宣传维新变法思想，将西方的社会学、政治学、政治经济学、哲学和自然科学介绍到中国，提出的“信、达、雅”的翻译标准，对后世的翻译工作产生了深远影响，是清末极具影响的资产阶级启蒙思想家，翻译家和教育家，是中国近代 史上向西方国家寻找真理的“先进的中国人”之一。
