字鲁瞻，号秋巘。长沙（今属湖南省）人，寓居溧阳（今属江苏省）。生卒年不详。宋代丞相赵葵后代。早年遭遇鲁王（雕阿不刺，弘吉刺氏贴木之子）诬谤而退居江南。赵岩长于诗，在太长公主前曾立赋八首七律，大受赞赏，得公主赏赐甚盛。而其出门即将金银器皿“皆碎而为分，惠官中从者及寒士”（元·孔静斋《至正直记》卷一“赵岩乐府”条）。赵岩又好酒，人称“醉后可顷刻赋诗百篇，时人皆推羡之”。然一生潦倒，晚年醉病而卒，遗骨归长沙。其散曲仅存小令一首。但此曲笔调活泼，构思颇见新意，在元曲中亦可算作佳作。
