唐赵郡人，或作成纪人，字习之。凉武昭王之后。登进士第。始授校书郎，累转国子博士、史馆修撰。性刚急，议论无所避，常谓史官记事不实。执政虽重其学，而恶其激讦，故久不迁。后授考功员外郎，拜中书舍人。历山南东道节度使。卒谥文。始从韩愈为文章，辞致浑厚，见推当时，有《李文公集》。
