元代史学家、文学家。延祐年间（1314年—1320年），欧阳玄任芜湖县尹三年，不畏权贵，清理积案，严正执法，注重发展农业，深得百姓拥戴，有“教化大行，飞蝗不入境”之誉。在任内，对芜湖名胜古迹，多加保护修葺，据传“芜湖八景”，是其在任时所形成。对每景都题有七律一首（见康熙《太平府志》和《芜湖县志》），常游“荆山寒壁”，因与家乡荆州的荆山同名，所以其有“三年楚客江东寓，每见荆山忆故乡”之句。离任时，对芜湖依念绵绵。后人将荆山之水取名“欧阳湖”，简称“欧湖”，以志纪念。
