译文
黄昏时分又听到城头传来号角声，病中的我勉强坐起，心情不佳。药刚刚煮沸，灯烛发出青色的光焰，快要烧尽的熏香散发半缕青烟，又勾起无限伤感。
自古以来多情者总是多病，我照着镜子，叹惜自己憔悴不堪的容颜。读一句你的《弹指词》，泪水突然滑落，拜托东风不要把我在病中对你的思念诉与你知道。
注释
短檠（qíng）：短柄之灯。
“清镜”句：谓揽镜自照，看到那清瘦的形影着实令人怜惜。 清镜，即明镜。 清影，清瘦之形影。
“一声”句：此言吟唱一声《弹指词》便伤心得泪下如丝。弹指，此指顾贞观之《弹指词》。
央及：恳请、请求。 玉人：对所爱者的爱称。张先《菩萨蛮》：“玉人又是匆匆去，马蹄何处垂杨路。”

虞美人·黄昏又听城头角创作背景
该词初看之下是写给恋人的，但细细品读，发现另有端倪。从文中“弹指”等可以看出这首词是词人为怀念友人顾贞观而写下，具体创作年份未知。

虞美人·黄昏又听城头角鉴赏
纳兰的词，总是让人感觉缱绻幽情，该词自然也不例外。全词辞藻优雅，言浅意深，可谓是直抒胸臆的佳作。
一开篇，作者就描绘了这样一个场面，“黄昏又听城头角，病起心情恶”，黄昏时分，城头号角响起，词人身患疾病，心情异常低落。接着纳兰向我们交代了此时他正在做什么，“药炉初沸短檠青，无那残香半缕恼多情”。
那么，纳兰到底是因何而生病呢？他在下片给出了答案：“多情自古原多病。”患病之人一般都会自怜自伤，纳兰自然也不例外，更何况是独自病在异乡，没有亲人的悉心照料，没有朋友的嘘寒问暖，所以他只能无奈地揽镜自照，结果看到的却是自己日渐消瘦的容貌。
词的结尾两句似乎很好理解，“一声弹指泪如丝，央及东风休遣玉人知”，病中的纳兰触景伤情，以至于轻轻弹一下手指，就伤心得泪下如丝，但是他又不想让想念之人知道自己患病的消息后徒增伤心，于是央求东风不要把这个消息告诉他。
这里的“弹指”指代别的是纳兰好友顾贞观的词集《弹指集》。那尾句中的“玉人”又如何解释呢？从通常意义上理解，它当然是指美丽洁白的女子。另外，它也会被用来指代风流俊美的才郎，由此看来，纳兰以玉人来称呼顾贞观，也就变得合情合理。

纳兰性德（1655－1685），满洲人，字容若，号楞伽山人，清代最著名词人之一。其诗词“纳兰词”在清代以至整个中国词坛上都享有很高的声誉，在中国文学史上也占有光采夺目的一席。他生活于满汉融合时期，其贵族家庭兴衰具有关联于王朝国事的典型性。虽侍从帝王，却向往经历平淡。特殊的生活环境背景，加之个人的超逸才华，使其诗词创作呈现出独特的个性和鲜明的艺术风格。流传至今的《木兰花令·拟古决绝词》——“人生若只如初见，何事秋风悲画扇？等闲变却故人心，却道故人心易变。”富于意境，是其众多代表作之一。
