译文
仲秋时节霜露渐起，万物凋零，云淡天高，秋风阵阵。
住在山中的人最先能感觉到这些变化，远行游子要放生高歌才能舒缓心中思家的愁绪。
稀疏的树林中不断地刮起冷风，空荡荡的山峦上聚集着浓云。
浓重的露水洒落在庭院中的树上，繁密的叶子就从茂盛的枝条上落下。
抚摸林中野菌只感生命短暂，攀摘苍松枝叶只羡无惧严寒。
在这秋风萧瑟的日子里远远地来到林边野外垂钓，与朝廷、市场这些争名争利的场所断绝联系。
只要保持着远古人的心胸，淡然无欲，那我们离无为自适的境界也就不远了。
注释
仲秋月：农历八月，是典型的秋日。
飂戾：风声。
长谣：放声高歌。
岫：山峰。
垂纶：垂钓。
濠上：典故名，典出《庄子集释》卷六下〈外篇·秋水〉。后多用“濠上”等比喻别有会心、自得其乐之地。把崇尚老庄就说成是濠上之风。
秋日诗鉴赏
全诗清晰地显现出三个层次。
首四句总写秋日的节侯特点及其在人们心理上的反映。前二句首先写出秋天的一派肃杀之气。“仲秋月”就是农历八月，是典型的秋日，此时天气转凉，霜露渐起，百物凋零，所以冠以“萧瑟”二字。“飂戾风云高”是说此时节云淡天高，秋风阵阵。“飂戾”就是风声。如此萧瑟的节候自然会在人们的心理上产生感应：住在山中的人会首先感到这时序的变化；远行在外的人很容易产生凄凉之感、思家之念，以至于要放声唱歌来舒散心中的愁闷。这一层写出了对秋日的总体印象，为后面的具体描写秋景张本。
接下六句为第二层意思，写自身所感到的节候变化。“疏林积凉风，虚岫结凝霄”，是说稀疏的树林中不断地刮起冷风，空荡荡的山峦上聚集着浓云，这是山林中的变化。“湛露洒庭林，密叶辞荣条”是说浓重的露水洒落在庭院中的树上，繁密的叶子就从茂盛的枝条上落下，这是庭院中的变化。这种无情的肃杀之气虽说无可抗拒，但在受其摧残的时间和程度上，各种景物是不相同的，那是它们各自的品质和抗御能力不一样，所以紧接着补了两句：菌是一种寿命极短的植物，《庄子》上曾说过“朝菌不知晦朔”，所以作者抚之而生悲。苍松不怕寒冷，秋气无损于它，所以作者不禁要攀其枝叶，投以羡慕的眼光。这一层写的虽是眼前常见景物，刻画却是精细而鲜明的，而且诗人还为之动了悲、羡之情，足见他并没有用哲人的冰冷目光去静观这种“时变”，而是饱含着诗人的感情去体察的，也就是说诗人是以热呼呼的心肠描绘出这秋日的凄清画面的，所以其间充溢着浓郁的诗意。
松柏是高洁品质的象征，上句诗人既有羡于松，虽是写景，但个人志趣已经流露，后四句遂顺调转入抒写自己的情志。“垂纶在林野，交情远市朝”，是说：在这秋天的日子里，大自然尽管如此萧瑟，我还是愿意投身于它的怀抱，远远地来到林边野外钓鱼，与朝廷、市场这些争名争利的场所断绝联系。为什么要如此呢？因为“淡然古怀心，濠上岂伊遥”，意思是说：只要把纷繁的世界看得淡漠，无求于人，无苛于己，保持着远古人的心胸，那我们离无为自适的境界也就不远了。“濠上”一典出于《庄子》的《秋水》篇，其中写庄子与惠施在濠上（在今安徽凤阳）闲游，看到鲦鱼从容出游，因而引起了鱼究竟知不知道快乐的一番辩论，后世就把濠上指代逍遥闲游的地方，把崇尚老庄就说成是濠上之风。此二句是谈玄论虚之词，也是全篇的旨归。道家认为一切礼乐道德等社会规范，以及人们有组织的行动与交往都是对人的自然本性的扼杀，所以他们要摆脱一切制度与文明的束缚，把任情适性、归真返朴当作终身追求的目标。这里颂扬的也就是这种精神。
孙绰此诗虽也涉及玄理，却并不淡然寡味。首先，作者是在对秋日景象的描绘和由此而产生的悲、羡之情上引出对濠上之风的颂扬的，这是诗歌艺术上常用的讽咏比兴法，因此自然也具有艺术感染力。其次，此诗所涉及的玄理，并非阐释道家的具体教义，仅仅是表明一种归依道风的感情，而表现感情乃是诗歌的天职，诗情诗味即由此出，这也是此诗不乏诗味的原因。
当然，此诗虽也较多地写了山水风景，林野秋色，但因为它既未以游览作为描写景物的过程和手段，也没有把自然景物作为美感观照的主位对象，所以它仍属于玄言诗，还不是一首山水诗。但是，孙绰本人是爱好山水的，描摹山水的本领也是高超的（例如其《天台山赋》就写得掷地有声），而且他“借山水以化其郁结”（《三月三日兰亭诗序》），所以他诗中的自然景物（包括山水），也就应当另眼相看了。此诗借秋日景物来表明其向往濠上之风，也就是为了化解其胸中郁结，这与“老庄告退”后兴起的山水诗有着共同之处。更明确地说，被称为空洞虚泛的玄学，却也有其注重自然之道、注重人与自然相和谐的一面。作为玄学的诗歌形式的玄言诗，因而也有其注重从自然——山水之中体悟玄理，亦即企图让自然景物与人的思想取得和谐的倾向。正是这个倾向的不断发展延伸，才终于有了以山水为重头、而玄理退居为“尾巴”的山水诗。孙绰此诗中，阐明玄理虽然还是诗的主要目的，但谈玄在篇幅上已是“尾巴”了。因此，如果说此诗包含着山水诗的某些因素或萌芽，应该是符合实际的。
