译文
高高亭子位于郡城以西，直上千尺与那浮云相齐。
顺着山崖向着山顶登去，群山向下觉得飞鸟更低。
半天空今马儿阵阵嘶叫，游壶美酒本为好友而提；
坐到亭上放眼一望无际，红花绿柳处处莺鸟乱啼，千家万户连着弯弯小溪。
饮洒末醉已听傍晚鸡啼，提笔写诗送别为友离去；
为君题诗啊，哀伤别离，春草萋萋啊，没了马蹄。
注释
西亭子：虢州城西山上的亭子。李司马：作者友人，生平未详。
郡城：指虢州。
盘：盘旋。跻（jī）：登，升。
使君：对州郡长官的称呼。五马：汉时州郡太守用五马驾车。这里指虢州刺史的车马。天半嘶（sī）：在半天空嘶叫。形容亭高。
丝绳：指提酒坛的丝绳。玉壶：酒壶。
端倪（ní）：边际。
井：古时八家为一井，引申为乡里，家宅。回溪：回环的溪水。
行：行酒。
点笔：以笔点墨。
解携：别离，分手。
萋萋（qī）：草木繁盛的样子。

西亭子送李司马创作背景
乾元二年（759）五月，岑参任为虢州长史。这首诗即是作者于虢州西山亭子送别友人而作的。

西亭子送李司马鉴赏
诗的开头四句写登亭。首句点出西亭的方位及其“高高”的特点，次句承首句以“直上千尺”来直写其高，以“与云齐”来陪衬其高。三、四两句则写登亭，用“群山”、“飞鸟”来烘托西亭之高，并点出已登上。
诗的中间五句写登上西亭后所见景物。“使君五马天半嘶”，点示主人身份并从侧面写西亭之高，与上面“群山”，“飞鸟”构成颇为雄壮的景象。“丝绳玉壶为君提”，顺便点出“送”字，并为下面“酒行末醉”伏线。接着，诗中使用一“望”字领起，写登亭后所见。“无端倪”写总的感受，意境辽阔，很符合登高特点。下面两句具体写景物。“红花绿柳”，以浓郁的互相映衬的色彩写所见，“莺乱啼”写鸟声的喧嚷，是所闻。这一句描绘出百花盛开，百鸟鸣啭的盎然春意，是西亭子周围景色。“千家万井连回溪”是俯望所见，勾划出宁静幽美的田野风光，是山下景色。这几句景物描绘，由近及远，用笔极自然，深远的景物中透露着春的气息。
诗的后面六句写“送”。先以不觉时间流逝，写愿与友人相聚长久，留恋不忍别离，接着又两处点出“为君题”，这种复唱的句式，与上文“为君提”一样，流露出友情的深厚。“惜解携”，直写心怀，感情十分深挚。诗的结尾两句：“草萋萋，没马蹄”，是诗人对送别的联想。友人就要跨马登程，而路上春草却要没过友人的马蹄。以景写情，“惜”字从中得到含蓄的表现。
这首诗写景物，语句清新优美，意境深远开阔。诗为七言古诗，句句用韵，一韵到底；中间以三句为一节，结尾四句皆用三字句，写得挥洒自如，自然流畅。结尾以萋萋春草写别情，既点明题意，又十分优美含蓄。

岑参（约715-770年），唐代边塞诗人，南阳人，太宗时功臣岑文本重孙，后徙居江陵。[1-2] 岑参早岁孤贫，从兄就读，遍览史籍。唐玄宗天宝三载（744年）进士，初为率府兵曹参军。后两次从军边塞，先在安西节度使高仙芝幕府掌书记；天宝末年，封常清为安西北庭节度使时，为其幕府判官。代宗时，曾官嘉州刺史（今四川乐山），世称“岑嘉州”。大历五年（770年）卒于成都。
