译文
贾生您举首西眺忆念京华，如今迁滴湘水之浦可别怨嗟。
当今圣上恩典甚于汉文帝，怜爱您而未把您迁谪到长沙。
注释
巴陵：即岳州，在今岳阳市。贾舍人：诗人贾至，天宝末为中书舍人，乾元元年（758）出为汝州刺史，二年贬岳州司马，在巴陵与李白相遇。⑵贾生：即西汉人贾谊。这里以贾谊比贾至。京华：京城之美称。因京城是文物、人才汇集之地，故称。
湘浦：湘江边。南迁：被贬谪、流放到南方。怨嗟：怨恨叹息。
圣主：泛称英明的天子。此处有讽刺意味。汉文帝：贾谊通诸子百家之书。文帝召为博士，迁至太中大夫后受排挤，为长沙王太傅。
长沙：在巴陵南，离京师更远。汉文帝时贾谊被谪往长沙。

巴陵赠贾舍人创作背景
贾至字幼邻，洛阳人，是与李白同时代的诗人和散文家。唐玄宗幸蜀时，他曾任中书舍人，知制诰，在唐肃宗乾元年间，被贬为岳州司马（岳州即今湖南省岳阳市）。此时李白正在巴陵游历，遇见了他，见他心情十分苦闷，便作了这首诗赠送给他。诗中依然以他未贬前的官衔尊称他“贾舍人”。

巴陵赠贾舍人鉴赏
唐人作诗，常常喜欢把历史上与现实中有同种遭遇的人联系在一起。因西汉的贾谊是洛阳人，能文，曾被贬长沙太傅，而贾至不仅与他同姓，而且同为洛阳人，也擅长作文，被贬岳州的地方与长沙也很相近，因此诗人开首就以贾谊来比贾至。由于西汉和唐代的京城都在长安，位在岳阳、长沙的西北面，故诗中称“西望”。而贾谊、贾至本来都是朝中京官，都是由京城被贬而出，但又时时关心朝政的状况，因此诗中又用上了“忆京华”三字，这一“望”一“忆”二字，实际上已将贾至当时被贬后的失意而又关心朝政的复杂心理揭示了出来。
正因为贾至当时失意怨望，却又时时地向往着京城，故而诗人在第二句中就开始劝慰起友人，既然已被南贬迁徙到湘浦这地方来了，就不要再去哀怨嗟叹了，次句中的“莫怨嗟”三字，完全是从首句“西望忆京华”中来的；因为“望”、“忆”之中有怨嗟意，所以才劝其“莫怨嗟”。
李白既然是劝慰朋友，总不能空口相劝，最好能找出一些劝慰的话或事来，这样对朋友才能起到一定的作用。于是诗人想到：贾至虽然被唐肃宗贬至岳阳，但岳阳毕竟在长沙的北面，距离京城要比长沙近些，从这一点上来说，唐肃宗还不算太薄情，他至少没像汉文帝那样把贾至贬到长沙。于是，末二句中有所谓的“圣主恩深”、“怜君”等，都是从这个意思上来说的，都是一些宽慰之词，并不意味李白认为唐肃宗就是明君。相反，诗中话中有话，那唐肃宗与汉文帝的做法实只五十步与一百步之差，屈才则同。这讽刺意味是十分委婉而深长的。
此诗一无华词，二无想象，却一气流走，天然成韵，既有着关切同情，又有着安慰宽解和委婉的措意，充溢着诗人对被贬友人的一片真挚之情。

李白（701年－762年），字太白，号青莲居士，唐朝浪漫主义诗人，被后人誉为“诗仙”。祖籍陇西成纪(待考)，出生于西域碎叶城，4岁再随父迁至剑南道绵州。李白存世诗文千余篇，有《李太白集》传世。762年病逝，享年61岁。其墓在今安徽当涂，四川江油、湖北安陆有纪念馆。
