花池边刚栽了七棵梅树，想到开花时我再来查点。
不要怕长洲的桃李嫉妒，今年你要好好为我吐艳。
注释
刘和州：即刘禹锡。
点检：即检点、查点的意思。
长洲：古苑名。在今江苏苏州市西南，太湖北。
使君：诗人自谓。汉以后对州郡长官尊称使君。
酬刘和州戏赠创作背景
这首咏梅诗写于唐敬宗宝历二年（826年）诗人任苏州刺史之时，是赠与刘禹锡之作。当时朝政腐败，诗人在朝屡遭压抑，内心十分痛苦。这首诗或多或少是其内心写照。

全诗模仿《离骚》诗意，写作者在池边种下七株梅树。屈原在《离骚》中有“余既滋兰之九畹兮，又树蕙之百亩。畦留夷与揭车兮，杂杜衡与芳芷。冀枝叶之峻茂兮，愿俟时乎吾将刈”的句子，以大量种植香草喻培育各种人才。败居易在此诗中借亲手栽梅亦含有希望进步力量出来挽救时局之意。他要到开花的时节来查看这七棵梅树，诗人是非常希望梅花能完好无损地成长的。
这首诗通过栽梅一事，表达了诗人良好的愿望。开头一句“池边新种七株梅”，点明栽梅的地点和棵数。“新”，紧扣题目（一题《新栽梅》）。第二句“欲到花时点检来”，写诗人的打算。关于“点检”，无疑是“点检”梅树生长的情况，梅花盛开的情景，梅花艳丽的程度，当然，“点检”包含着观赏的内容。
白居易在苏州刺史任上，为着替皇帝拣选贡桔，曾在此游览。长洲苑桃李芬芳，争奇斗妍，它表面艳丽却义易：于凋零，此刻似乎怀着对梅花的嫉妒心理。诗以桃李喻小人。在三、四两句中，诗人明确表态：他要自己亲手种植的梅花盛开，而不要担心桃李嫉妒。拿梅花束和桃李作对比，明确表示出诗人的爱憎态度，此中深意，只有对梅花的高洁品性有充分了解的诗人，才能体会出来。
这首诗写得通俗晓畅，风格平淡。

白居易（772年－846年），字乐天，号香山居士，又号醉吟先生，祖籍太原，到其曾祖父时迁居下邽，生于河南新郑。是唐代伟大的现实主义诗人，唐代三大诗人之一。白居易与元稹共同倡导新乐府运动，世称“元白”，与刘禹锡并称“刘白”。白居易的诗歌题材广泛，形式多样，语言平易通俗，有“诗魔”和“诗王”之称。官至翰林学士、左赞善大夫。公元846年，白居易在洛阳逝世，葬于香山。有《白氏长庆集》传世，代表诗作有《长恨歌》、《卖炭翁》、《琵琶行》等。
