一种天然好滋味，可怜生处是天涯。
咏荔枝鉴赏
诗贵自然，“咏物以托物寄兴为上”（清·薛雪《一瓢诗话》），托物寄兴亦以自然为绝妙，自然天成是咏物诗的至境。丘浚作诗主张自然成文，反对用奇语异辞，认为“眼前景物口头语，便是诗家绝妙辞”（《答友人论诗》）。所以，他的诗大都写得自然清新，颇多天机自动天籁自鸣机趣。他的咏物诗也大多是“眼前景物口头语”的自然流露，并不刻意追求寄托，只是在有意无意之间托物寄兴，借景言情，似无寄托而寄托遥深，更是精彩绝妙，不同凡响。
这首《咏荔枝》诗看似寻常却奇兀，正确理解“可怜”一句，是准确把握全诗寄托所在的关键。一般人都把“可怜”理解为“哀怜”，那不但是对诗人匠心的隔阂，更是对诗人襟抱的无知，丘浚从小就胸怀“遥从海外数中原”（《五指山》）、“应须一口吸江湘”（《海》）的雄心大志，对生在海南长在海南充满着自豪和自信，没有丝毫的自卑，绝不会作怨天怨地的可怜相。他志大才大，深受时人器重推荐，使他少年得志，一路春风得意，从一介书生做到中央高级长官。绝不会有怀才不遇的天涯沦落人的失落感。
所以，“可怜”在这里只能是爱怜之意。“可怜”作“可爱”解古已有之。如古乐府《孔雀东南飞》：“自名秦罗敷，可怜体无比。”唐·杜牧《睦州四韵》：“州在钓台边，溪山实可怜。”宋王安石《北堂》：“可怜新月为谁好，无数晚山相对愁。”据此，末两句是说，海南荔枝之所以天生就具有一种无以伦比的甜美味道，是因为它长在得天独厚的海之角天之涯，才能生就如此无以伦比的天然美质，才能这样加倍招人喜爱和受人青睐。只有在天涯海角这片得天独厚的热土上，才能生长出海南荔枝这种无比珍贵的天然美物。诗人对海南荔枝这种无以复加的嘉许推崇，其中正寄托着诗人对海南故土的无以复加的厚爱与眷恋。而这种寄托又妙合无垠，自然巧妙，更显得意蕴深厚意味深长，既深得风人之旨又深得咏物三昧。

丘浚（1418～1495）明代著名政治家、理学家、史学家、经济学家和文学家，海南四大才子之一。字仲深，号深庵、玉峰、别号海山老人，琼州琼台（今属海南）人。景泰五年进士，历官经筵讲官、侍讲、侍讲学士、翰林学士、国子临祭酒、礼部侍郎、尚书、纂修《宪宗实录》总裁官、文渊阁大学士、户部尚书兼武英殿大学士等职。丘浚学问渊博，熟悉当代掌故，晚年右眼失明仍披览不辍，研究领域涉政治、经济、文学、医学等，著述甚丰，同海瑞合称为“海南双壁”。
