译文
月亮挂在中天夜色多么寒凉，月光如此皎洁月轮分外团圆。
诗人们月下吟常常雅兴勃发，漂泊的游子惹恨牵愁却不忍把她遥观。
月轮啊！你是翡翠楼边悬挂着的玉镜，月轮啊！你是珍珠帘外高挂着的冰盘。
这美好的夜晚何必要点起蜡烛，辉煌的光彩映照着这画栋雕栏。

寒：寒冷。
团团：团圆。
悬：悬挂着。
良宵：美好的夜晚。
晴彩：辉煌的光彩。
香菱咏月·其一鉴赏
这是香菱所写的第一首咏月诗。
作为学步的开头，此诗在技巧上显然是非常稚拙的。如借用宝钗的话来说，那就是：“这个不好，不是这个做法”。林黛玉则讲得更为具体和明白：“意思却有，只有措词不雅。皆因你看的诗少被他缚住了。”
所谓“意思却有”，大概是指此诗咏月而不离题，还能运用形象语言及比喻等技法来描绘月轮的形象。但其缺点也正在于“措词不雅”和构思被缚等方面。
诗的首联写了寒秋之夜天宇上一轮皎洁的明月，用吴刚月中伐桂这一古老的传说，来暗点眼下这桂子飘香的晚秋时节。但除了这里有一点意蕴外，其它的如以“皎皎”写月色，“团团”摹月形，均为俗套。诗的颌联显得形象单薄，支离破碎，说诗人们往往借月来助长诗兴，山野的过客不忍对她而平添愁恨，意思显豁，别无余韵。且“常思玩”三字选语太硬，太俗太露。诗的颈联，本应是另转新意，但此处仍原地踏步，仅仅堆砌一些华艳的词藻来装点门面。什么“翡翠楼边”、“珍珠帘外”之类，对偶固然精切，仍不免有肥辞瘠义之嫌。至于“玉镜”、“冰盘”之喻，也已变成诗中多余之赘疣。而诗的结联还是归结为月光的明澈，这样的收尾既得无力且又无韵致。由此可见，作为刚刚学诗的香菱，即使为一首好诗而整日苦思冥想，“越发弄成呆子一般”，但毕竟初次尝试，还是免不了要有失败的教训。作者故意把这首诗弄得如此蹩脚，使之符合人物的学识和身份，这别出心裁的安排，实在是多么不容易！

曹雪芹，名霑，字梦阮，号雪芹，又号芹溪、芹圃。清代著名文学家，小说家。先祖为中原汉人，满洲正白旗包衣出身。素性放达，曾身杂优伶而被钥空房。爱好研究广泛：金石、诗书、绘画、园林、中医、织补、工艺、饮食等。他出身于一个“百年望族”的大官僚地主家庭，因家庭的衰败饱尝人世辛酸，后以坚韧不拔之毅力，历经多年艰辛创作出极具思想性、艺术性的伟大作品《红楼梦》。
