译文
自小不同人交往，一心爱好在六经。
行年渐至四十岁，长久隐居无所成。
最终抱定固穷节，饱受饥饿与冷。
屋风凄厉，荒草掩没前院庭。
披衣坐守漫长夜，盼望晨鸡叫天明。
没有知音在身边，向谁倾诉我衷情。
注释
罕人事：很少有世俗上的交往。游好：游心，爱好。六经：六种儒家经典，指《诗》、《书》、《易》、《礼》、《乐》、《春秋》。这里泛指古代的经籍。
行行：不停地走，比喻时光流逝。向：接近。不惑：指四十岁。淹留：久留，指隐退无成：指在功名事业上无所成就。
竟：最终。抱：持，坚持。固穷节：穷困时固守节操，意即宁可穷困而不改其志。饱：饱经，饱受。更：经历。
弊庐：破旧的房屋。交：接。悲风：凄厉的风。没：掩没，覆盖。庭：庭院。
“披褐”二句：表现寒夜饥寒交迫的窘状，即《怨诗楚调示庞主簿邓治中》诗中所说“寒夜无被眠，造夕思鸡鸣”之意。
孟公：东汉刘龚，字孟公。皇甫谧《高士传》载：“张仲蔚，平陵人。好诗赋，常居贫素，所处蓬蒿没人。时人莫识，惟刘龚知之。”陶渊明在这里是以张仲蔚自比，但是慨叹陶渊明却没有刘龚那样的知音。翳（yì）：遮蔽，隐没。此处有“郁闷”之意。

陶渊明（约365年—427年），字元亮，（又一说名潜，字渊明）号五柳先生，私谥“靖节”，东晋末期南朝宋初期诗人、文学家、辞赋家、散文家。汉族，东晋浔阳柴桑人（今江西九江）。曾做过几年小官，后辞官回家，从此隐居，田园生活是陶渊明诗的主要题材，相关作品有《饮酒》、《归园田居》、《桃花源记》、《五柳先生传》、《归去来兮辞》等。
