译文
江中小洲笼罩在一片烟雾之中，天空也呈现一片苍茫晦暗之色。
船只轻小人不觉其动，看到船边缆绳被拉直才知道船夫正背纤而行。
听见笛声从对岸传来知道离岸不远了，又闻到荷花香味知道岸边长满了荷花。
夜色虽然晦暗却可看见隐约的帆影，在黑暗中好像悬挂在空中犹如渡客提心吊胆一般。
注释
此诗一作姚崇诗。
渚：水中的小块陆地。
晦：光线不明，昏暗。
恐：一作“似”。
夜渡江鉴赏
这首诗描绘了一幅夏夜渡江图，艺术构思颇为独特。诗先交待了画面的背景：江中小洲笼罩在一片烟雾之中，天空也呈现一片苍茫晦暗之色。这里由“浮烟”“苍茫”“晦”等词的渲染，表现出江上夜色的独特之处，视线既不明晰，也不是漆黑一片，以下的描写都是由这种独特的情境所生发。因为天色昏暗，远处景物不辨，失去了参照物，所以船行而人不觉其行，只是看见船边缆绳被拉得笔直，才知道船夫正在背纤而行，可见江水其实甚为湍急。突然听见悠扬的笛声从对岸传来，所以知道离岸不远了，同时又嗅见荷花的香味，所以知道岸边长满了荷花，通过听觉和嗅觉感受渡江的距离，实际上又暗含了牧童夜归与荷塘夜色的景境。夜色虽然晦暗，但江上由于水光映照，却可看见隐约的帆影，而这帆影在黑暗中好像点点悬挂在空中，犹如渡客提心吊胆一般。这样一来，在洲渚浮烟、天色晦暗的特定景境之中，既暗含了江水流急、白帆点点、牧童夜归、荷塘飘香的景色，又表达出夜间渡江的独特心境，可谓情景交融，构思别致。

姚崇（651年－721年），本名元崇，字元之，陕州硖石（今河南陕县）人，唐代著名政治家，嶲州都督姚懿之子。姚崇文武双全，历仕则天、中宗、睿宗三朝，两次拜为宰相，并兼任兵部尚书。他曾参与神龙政变，后因不肯依附太平公主，被贬为刺史。唐玄宗亲政后，姚崇被任命兵部尚书、同平章事，进拜中书令，封梁国公。他提出十事要说，实行新政，辅佐唐玄宗开创开元盛世，被称为救时宰相。姚崇执政三年，与房玄龄、杜如晦、宋璟并称唐朝四大贤相。721年（开元九年），姚崇去世，追赠扬州大都督，赐谥文献。
