春夜阑，春恨切，花外子规啼月。人不见，梦难凭，红纱一点灯。
偏怨别，是芳节，庭下丁香千结。宵雾散，晓霞晖，梁间双燕飞。

译文
春的深夜静静的，春的思愁绵绵不绝，花丛外杜鹃鸟的声声啼叫，似在挽留西去的残月。相思的人不见踪影，相思的梦也难成，我那孤独的心，如红纱罩里的一点残灯。
最恨的是这时分别，在春暖花开的季节，阶下的丁香花繁叶茂，每一朵都似同心结。夜雾渐渐地飘散，朝霞在天边灿烂，梁间呢喃着亲亲的细语，飞来了一双春天的燕。
注释
春夜阑：春夜将尽。阑，尽。
春恨：春日的思愁。切：急切，这里有绵绵不觉之意。
子规：杜鹃鸟，又称布谷鸟，相传其啼声哀婉凄切。
难凭：无所依托。
芳节：百花盛开时节，犹言春天时节。
丁香千结：此处谓固结不开，犹人之愁固结不解。千，一作“半”。
宵雾：夜雾。
晖：光辉灿烂，一作“辉”。

更漏子·春夜阑鉴赏
毛文锡擅写闺情，词语艳丽，这首词是一首艺术性较高的闺思之作。
闺中少妇，思念远别的亲人，通宵不寐，直待天明。以其爱之甚切，故恨之亦切；以其思之甚深，故怨之亦深。这一怀思绪，主要通过环境气氛的描写来烘托和表现。
词中的景物，不仅是作为春天一般景物用以渲染春天的气氛，同时还作为一种意象，借以表达离情别绪和春思春愁。
“花外子规啼月”，思妇在静夜里听到鸟声，本来就容易勾起孤寂之感。以鸟声烘托岑寂，是以动写静。而这鸟声又是子规的啼叫声，便包含着更深一层的意思。子规的叫声近似“不如归去”。杜牧诗云：“蜀客春城闻蜀鸟，思归声引未归心。”这首词里所写花外子规，也具有思归的意象，但不是用以表示游子思归，而是用以表现思妇切盼GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>情人归来。
“红纱一点灯”，思妇独守空闺，孤寂之中，对着红纱笼罩的的孤灯凝思，此景此情，都带点凄凉之感。“孤灯”在这里是烘托思妇孤寂的一种意象。思妇夜里思念GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>情人，不能入寐，梦也难成，空对着一点寒灯。在寒灯的映照下，益显出思妇心情的孤寂。
“庭下丁香千结”，写室外之景。丁香结蕾，唐宋诗人多用一比喻愁思固结不解。如李商隐《代赠》：“芭蕉不展丁香结，同向春风各自愁。”这首词描写庭下丁香花蕾千结，同样暗寓思妇愁肠千结，表现了思妇的离愁和春愁。
“梁间双燕飞”，双燕飞于梁间，最容易引起思妇的春思和春愁。本来成双成对的燕子绕梁而飞，是一种很和谐的景物，可以唤起欢愉的情绪，然而当对着这景物的主人公心境十分孤寂的时候，这一和谐景物与孤寂的心境恰形成鲜明的对比。所以当词中的思妇彻夜不眠，送走宵雾，迎来晓霞，看到双燕在晨曦中绕梁而飞的时候，不是解除了夜间相思之苦，而是更增添了一种孤寂之感，更无法排遣心中的春情和春思、春愁和春恨。
词中子规、纱灯、丁香、双燕这四种景象，是实景，又不是单纯的实景，可以说是“实中有虚”，也就是说既具体又抽象，因为它们已经成了引发愁情的触媒，甚至称了这无形无质的情思的表象。这首词对于这些意象的运用是很成功的。

唐末五代时人，字平珪，高阳（今属河北人），一作南阳（今属河南）人。年十四，登进士第。已而入蜀，从王建，官翰林学士承旨，进文思殿大学士，拜司徒，蜀亡，随王衍降唐。未几，复事孟氏，与欧阳烔等五人以小词为孟昶所赏。《花间集》称毛司徒，著有《前蜀纪事》《茶谱》，词存三十二首，今有王国维辑《毛司徒词》一卷。
