伫立长堤，淡荡晚风起。骤雨歇，极目萧疏，塞柳万株，掩映箭波千里。走舟车向此，人人奔名竞利。念荡子、终日驱驱，争觉乡关转迢递。
何意。绣阁轻抛，锦字难逢，等闲度岁。奈泛泛旅迹，厌厌病绪，迩来谙尽，宦游滋味。此情怀、纵写香笺，凭谁与寄。算孟光、争得知我，继日添憔悴。

译文
久久的站立在长堤之上，轻柔的晚风吹拂着，但见骤雨刚过的边地天晚风凉，一片萧条冷落，毫无可观，唯有千万株柳树种在堤坝上，遮掩着奔腾不息的江河。人们都争相着往这里来，不管是什么途径，只是为了追名逐利。想到旅途之人终日不停的漂泊，这些追名逐利的人又怎么会察觉到在终日驱驰中已经渐进啊的远离了家乡。
轻率的离开绣阁（代指女方），很难收到妻子的来信，随便度过了一年，无奈的到处旅行，厌烦的情绪，近来尝遍了在外流动做小官的滋味，这些想法，我就是写成书信，又能寄给谁呢？即使孟光一样贤惠的女子，又怎么能知道我一天比一天愁苦，增添憔悴呢。
注释
定风波，又名“卷春空”“定风波令”“”醉琼枝”“定风流”等。双调六十二字，前段五句三平韵两仄韵，后段六句四仄韵两平韵。另有双调六十三字，前段五句三平韵两仄韵，后段六句四仄韵两平韵；双调六十字，前段五句三平韵两仄韵，后段五句两平韵两仄韵；双调六十字，前后段各五句两平韵两仄韵等变体。
伫（zhù）立：长时间站立。
淡荡：舒缓，恬静。多用来形容春天景色。
箭波：水波迅速，有如飞箭。
走舟车：水路旱程并进。
念荡子、终日驱驱：想到旅途之人不停地漂泊。
迢（tiáo）递（dì）：形容路途遥远。
泛泛：飘流浮行的样子。
孟光：东汉贤士梁鸿妻。举案齐眉的典故说的就是梁鸿、孟光。汉书生梁鸿读完太学回家务农，与县上孟财主的30岁女儿孟光结婚，婚后他们抛弃孟家的富裕生活，到山区隐居，后来帮皋伯通打短工。每次孟光给梁鸿送饭时把托盘举得跟眉毛一样高。
迩来：从某时以来，从那以来。
香笺：加多种香料所制的诗笺或信笺。

定风波·伫立长堤创作背景
柳永中举（1034年）之后，曾任睦州团练推关、宇航县令、定海（在今浙江）晓峰盐场检察官、泗州判官等微小官职。这首《定风波·伫立长堤》便是他在“宦游”过程中对功名利禄的暂时否定。

定风波·伫立长堤鉴赏
词的上片先写“伫立长堤”，纵目远眺，但见骤雨刚过的边地天晚风凉，一片萧条冷落，毫无可观，唯有塞柳掩映的急流流向千里之外的故土。开篇几句对萧条的边地风光的描绘，为全词定下了悲凉的感情基调。而随着词作的逐步展开，这种悲凉之感不但没有减弱，反而滔滔滚滚，联翩直下。
“走舟车向此，人人奔名竞利”，边地如此荒凉，人们却争相“走舟车向此”，“人人奔名竞利”，却为追名逐利。一可悲。
荡子“终日驱驱”，不觉之间已然离故乡越来越远。词句由“念”领起，“争觉”一转，表达了这样的意思：想来荡子终日奔走，舟车劳顿，哪里还觉得家乡渐远！行行重行行，连家乡越来越远反也不觉得了。二可悲。
过片“何意”二字，似将上片的内容化作一声悲叹，又在这声悲叹中继续抒写自己的思归之情：“绣阁轻抛，锦字难逢，等闲度岁。”没想到自己为了蜗角功名、蝇头微利竟付出了抛家别妻、温情不再、虚度光阴的沉重代价。三可悲。
“奈”字一转，贯串以下四句：无奈受尽了羁旅漂泊之苦，尝够了辗转宦游的滋味，却也再无法摆脱名利的束缚。四可悲。
“此情怀、纵写香笺，凭谁与寄。”词意再转：自己的种种情怀，纵然写在“香笺”上，又能寄给谁呢？孤寂、痛苦，却无一人可以倾诉。五可悲。
“算孟光、争得知我，继日添憔悴。”语意更进一层：就算有孟光这样的贤妻，也未必能理解我，未必能理解我内心的苦衷。六可悲。
这首词是柳永失意人生的咏叹，以悲情贯穿全篇，一步紧似一步、一层深似一层地写尽了下层文人士子仕宦之途的矛盾心理和悲剧命运。

柳永，（约987年—约1053年）北宋著名词人，婉约派代表人物。汉族，崇安（今福建武夷山）人，原名三变，字景庄，后改名永，字耆卿，排行第七，又称柳七。宋仁宗朝进士，官至屯田员外郎，故世称柳屯田。他自称“奉旨填词柳三变”，以毕生精力作词，并以“白衣卿相”自诩。其词多描绘城市风光和歌妓生活，尤长于抒写羁旅行役之情，创作慢词独多。铺叙刻画，情景交融，语言通俗，音律谐婉，在当时流传极其广泛，人称“凡有井水饮处，皆能歌柳词”，婉约派最具代表性的人物之一，对宋词的发展有重大影响，代表作 《雨霖铃》《八声甘州》。
