译文
鲁仲连依靠谈笑出人头地，难道是为了钱帛财富？
尽管范蠡在越国出仕入相，但他原本只想退隐江湖。
我也只想效仿南阳诸葛亮，所以时常吟诵《梁父吟》。
虽然苍山容许了我不问世事，但落下的太阳又使我感伤流逝的光阴。
只求能够辅佐一位贤明的君主，待到功成名就便退隐原来的山林。
到西边去是为了做什么？孤身一人的我去求助知心好友。
飞鸟热爱渺远的青山，鱼儿在深邃的沧海游荡。
呼唤雄鹰经过上蔡，卖掉畚箕行往嵩山。
待到他日得闲来访，隐居的山林中必已备下素琴一张。
注释
鲁连：即鲁仲连。卖谈笑：指他从容不迫，谈笑退秦兵。
陶朱：即范蠡别称。五湖心：谓隐退江湖之志。
南阳子：即指诸葛亮，他于南阳躬耕时，常吟诵梁父吟。
容：容许。偃蹇（jiǎn）：形容偃息而卧，不问世事的样子。
可惜光阴消逝。颓侵：这里指太阳下山。
孤剑：孤剑：李白自喻。
沧：沧一作“江”。
“呼鹰”句：指的是秦始皇丞相上蔡人李斯，年少时曾牵黄犬，臂架苍鹰，出上蔡东门行猎。
卖畚：卖畚箕，用典于东晋十六国时的王猛，少时以卖畚箕为主，有大志。嵩岑：即嵩山。
“丘中”句：古代隐士大多喜欢弹琴。素琴：没有弦和徽的琴。此句化用于左思《招隐》：“岩穴无结构，丘中有鸣琴”。

留别王司马嵩创作背景
唐玄宗李隆基年号开元二十年冬（公元732年），李白求仕不得离开长安，游坊州（今陕西黄陵县）时作此诗，王嵩为坊州司马。

留别王司马嵩鉴赏
此诗用典、化典颇多，开篇三联便接连用典，但在用典的同时也叙述了古人的精神品质，并将其延伸到自己身上，可谓一妙手。
“苍山容偃蹇，白日惜颓侵”一联是全诗唯二的对于景致的描写，但又不全然是景物，更透露着诗人的感情。下一联直白的表达了诗人自己想要建功立业的想法，但与“愿一佐明主，功成还旧林”一联同看起来便少了功利多了报国的衷心。
“西来”句至“卖畚”句三联在表明了诗人此行的目的与胸中所怀的大志向的同时，又再一次提及景物将作者实际上想要归隐的感情含蓄的穿插其间。
诗人在最后一联展望未来，又一次表达了自己归隐的愿望。“清水出芙蓉，天然去雕饰”，后人爱用李白的话评价李白的诗，是很有见识的。
这首诗非常形象的表现了李白的性格：一方面对自己充满自信，孤高自傲；一方面在政治前途出现波折后，又流露出伤感之情。
在这首诗里，他演绎庄子的乐生哲学，表示对富贵的藐视。而在自然中，实则深含怀才不遇之情。全诗语言流畅，具有很强的感染力，李白“借题发挥”抒发自己的愤激情绪。
诚然，李白即兴赋诗，出口成章，显得毫不费力。他感情奔放，直抒胸臆，天真自然，全无矫饰，而自有一种不期然而然之妙。正所谓绚烂之极，归于平淡，这种功夫是极不易学到的。这首《留别王司马嵩》就体现了李白这种自然高妙的诗风。

李白（701年－762年），字太白，号青莲居士，唐朝浪漫主义诗人，被后人誉为“诗仙”。祖籍陇西成纪(待考)，出生于西域碎叶城，4岁再随父迁至剑南道绵州。李白存世诗文千余篇，有《李太白集》传世。762年病逝，享年61岁。其墓在今安徽当涂，四川江油、湖北安陆有纪念馆。
