译文
春社时飞来，秋社时归去，年年岁岁来来往往把寒热衔来搬去。喃喃鸣叫，忙碌飞奔，春风中堂上翻飞寻找王谢时的繁华旧迹，却只见笼罩在夕照斜阳中的寻常巷陌。兴，见证了许多；亡，也尽由着评说。
注释
春社：古代立春后第五个戊日。
秋社：古代立秋后第五个戊日。
喃喃：燕子的叫声。
劫劫：匆忙急切的样子。
王谢：代指高门贵族。
乌衣巷：在金陵城内，是王、谢等两家豪门贵族聚居的地方。
山坡羊·燕子鉴赏
在此曲中，作者托情于燕，抒历史兴亡之叹。燕子有飞迁的习性，秋天飞往南方，春暖花开时再返回北方。作者用燕子的来去喻示时间的流逝，又赋予燕子以人的视角。
接着写燕子喃喃细语，忙碌争飞，似乎在寻找王谢繁华旧迹，诉说人间兴亡之事，实际上是移情于燕子，将燕子的本能活动赋予人的主观意识。在只有“巷陌乌衣夕照斜”的无奈失望中，作者更是借燕子的口吻直接诉说历史兴亡的慨叹。全曲紧扣咏燕来怀古，继承了古人却又不拘泥、重复，立意新颖。尤其是移情手法的运用，使此曲更具婉转、曲折之妙。
“兴，多见些：亡，都尽说”是一个对偶句，依旧借助燕子的视角慨叹历史，文学上将这种手法称作“移情”，即将人的主观感受转移到某样事物上，使人物合一，强化情感的表达。不管历史如何变迁，兴亡往事最终都付与评说，人世喧嚣也都归于“喃喃”之语。曲的结尾很有一种有淡世事的超然之感。

赵善庆（？-1345年后），元代文学家。一作赵孟庆，字文贤，一作文宝，饶州乐平（今江西乐平县）人。《录鬼簿》说他「善卜术，任阴阳学正」。著杂剧《教女兵》、《村学堂》八种，均佚。散曲存小令二十九首。《太和正音谱》称其曲「如蓝田美玉」。
