译文
开辟山路得到一块石壁，把它命名为苍壁。此事出乎意料之外，以为是上天的恩赐，因高兴而写此词。
左手拿住青霓，右手挟住明月，我让雷神丰隆在前面做向导，叫开天宫之门。我周游太空，径直走入天之最高处。游历了神奇迷离的仙山悬圃，观赏了水源滔滔的涌泉和直立千丈的仙石。
天帝用钧天广乐并设瑶池宴来款待我。天帝请我饮酒，并赐苍壁一块。苍壁重叠高耸，正在瓢泉丘壑山水之间。我的马不肯前行，驾车人因思家而悲伤，从天上返回人间我觉得恍惚惆怅。
注释
千年调：词牌名。此调曹组词名“相思会”，因其首韵有“人无百年人，刚作千年调”句，辛弃疾改此名。双调七十五字，仄韵格，较曹组词少末句二衬字。
青霓（ní）：虹霓。
丰隆：雷神。
阊（chāng）阖（hé）：天门。
寥天一：空虚浑然一体的高天。
斛（hú）：古代量米容器，十斗为一斛。
钧天广乐：天上仙乐。
燕：同“宴”，即宴饮。瑶：瑶池，传说中的仙池，为群仙宴饮之所。
饮（yìn）予：请我饮酒。
嶙（lín）峋（xún）突兀：形容苍壁重叠高耸。
余马怀：我的马因怀乡而不肯前行。
仆夫悲：我的驾车人因思家而悲伤。

千年调·左手把青霓创作背景
这首词问世时，已值作者辛弃疾闲居瓢泉，时间大约在公元1200年（宋庆元六年）之后，这时作者壮志难酬，长时间闲居家中，年过六旬，体力不济，所以，逃避现实，过隐居生活的消极思想应运而出，可是这首《千年调》却充满积极浪漫主义精神，这在那个时期的词中是很特别的。
千年调·左手把青霓鉴赏
小序“意天之所赐邪，喜而赋”，表明了写作的原因和心情。作者自以为得了天赐石壁，精神为之一振，又看到所得的苍壁“势欲摩空”、“有心雄泰华”，他似乎由此得了天命，奋发向上，不断进取的思想又在胸中激荡，追求理想的精神鼓舞他在幻想的世界里纵横驰骋。在这样的心境下，这首词应运而生。
全词抒发词人超逸不凡的胸怀，反映他爱国怀乡精忠报国的思想，表现他怀才不遇的苦闷心情。上阕写登天与周游。词人展开想象的翅膀，乘着神马飞入太空。“左手把青霓，右手挟明月”，起句很有气势，一开始就把读者带入了天马行空、纵横驰骋的神奇壮丽景象之中。接下去，化用屈原《离骚》中的诗句描绘进入天宫的情景。“叫开阊阖”一句由《离骚》“吾令帝阍开关兮，倚阊阖而望予”凝缩而来。屈原为了上下求索，曾想象飞上天空，到达天门，但当他命令守门的帝阍打开天门时却吃了闭门羹。辛弃疾在这一点上似乎比屈原幸运得多，他是禀承着天恩登天的，天神自然不会挡驾，他的开路先锋雷师很顺利地叫开了天门，让他进入天国。“吾使丰隆前导”脱胎于《离骚》“吾令丰隆乘云兮”。原句是描写屈原上天碰壁后准备到下界“求女”出发时的情景的，事在“令帝阍开关”而被拒之门外之后，词人在这里重新组合，把两件事融为一体了。“周游上下，径入寥天一。览玄圃，万斛泉，千丈石。”“入于寥天一”是《庄子·大宗师》篇中语。这四句描写遨游天宇的情景。词人在天国里上下周游，直到太虚之境，在那里饱览了天上的奇景珍物，游历了神奇迷离的仙山悬圃，观赏了水源滔滔的涌泉和直立千丈的仙石。
下阕写受赐与怀乡。“钧天广乐，燕我瑶之席。帝饮予觞甚乐，赐汝苍壁。”这四句写天帝对词人的恩赐。这里化用《史记·赵世家》中赵简子梦游天国的典故。赵简子曾有病，五日不省人事，扁鹊对赵的家臣说，昔日秦穆公也曾这样过，三天后一定会醒过来。又过了两天半果然醒来，醒后对家臣说：我到了天帝那里，玩得很快乐，我和众神在中天游玩，欣赏了天上的仙乐和仙舞，天帝很高兴，还赐我两个竹篮子。辛弃疾把这个典故借用过来，描写自己想象中受天帝款待、赏赐的情景：天帝以隆重的仪式迎接他，在瑶池设下宴席，众多乐工奏起仙乐，天帝亲自斟酒，还高兴地说：“我要将苍壁赐予你。”这是至高无上的恩遇，只有当年将成霸业的秦穆公和将要拜为正卿的赵简子才得到过。辛用此典，可见胸襟之博大与自命不凡。天帝赐赵简子两个篮子，日后果然得到了应验，赵简子接连攻下二国，扩大了奉邑，成为晋国的实权派。辛弃疾把苍壁看作“天之所赐”与当年赵简子的受天幸相比，表现出他立功报国的勃大雄心和凌云壮志。
“嶙峋突兀，正在一丘壑。”这两句描写苍壁的形象和位置。这苍壁形体虽小，但气势雄伟。作者在《临江仙》中说：“莫笑吾家苍壁小，棱层势欲摩空。”“一丘一壑”本指隐者的住处，这里指作者瓢泉宅第亭园的一部分，也代指他的居所。这样一块苍壁坐落在一丘一壑之间是很有象征意义的。作者这样写，大概是在表明他虽然身在一丘一壑之间，却志在千里之外，“位卑未敢忘忧国”也许作者正是这样来领会天赐苍壁的用意的。
词的最后三句借用《离骚》中的“忽临睨夫旧乡；仆夫悲余马怀兮，蜷局顾而不行”，抒发怀念故土的感情。词人虽然在天宫受到盛情接待，过着美好生活，但他仍然深情地眷恋着祖国和家乡，致使他的随从和马都悲伤起来，于是辞别天宫，恍恍惚惚地回返尘寰。这里也反映出词人当时思想的矛盾，他虽然羡慕那醉眠的陶令，却又不甘心去过那种完全超然世外的桃源生活。苍壁的出现触动了他的积极用世思想，赋苍壁寄托着远大的抱负。
这首词最大的艺术特点就是五彩缤纷的联想和光怪陆离的幻觉。古代浪漫主义诗人屈原在主客观矛盾得不到解决时，常常在诗歌中以幻想的方式求得精神的寄托和解脱。辛弃疾继承了屈原的浪漫主义传统，在这首词中，通过想象，创造出神奇瑰丽的形象和理想的神仙世界。他在那里得到无限广阔的自由天地，受到礼遇和赏赐，与现实生活中的英雄无用武之地形成鲜明对照。这首词不仅表现手法象屈原的《离骚》，而且多处融进了《离骚》的句意，因此它在思想和艺术方面都同《离骚》有许多共同点。
但是，作者并没有机械地模仿《离骚》。所用《离骚》的诗句都经过了加工改造和融会创新。借用的诗句涉及到《离骚》的许多情节，屈原求见天帝被拒之门外，下界求女又遭到拒绝，后来终于听了巫咸、灵氛的劝告去“周流观乎上下”，但终因“仆夫悲，余马怀”而告终。这些情节到了辛弃疾笔下，得到有机地重新组合，内容上赋予它以新的涵义，并与赵简子受天幸的典故自然地融合为一，创造出另一番神游天外的意境，使之适合表达他的思想感情的需要。
其词抒写力图恢复国家统一的爱国热情，倾诉壮志难酬的悲愤，对南宋上层统治集团的屈辱投降进行揭露和批判；也有不少吟咏祖国河山的作品。艺术风格多样，而以豪放为主。热情洋溢，慷慨悲壮，笔力雄厚，与苏轼并称为“苏辛”。

辛弃疾（1140－1207），南宋词人。原字坦夫，改字幼安，别号稼轩，汉族，历城（今山东济南）人。出生时，中原已为金兵所占。21岁参加抗金义军，不久归南宋。历任湖北、江西、湖南、福建、浙东安抚使等职。一生力主抗金。曾上《美芹十论》与《九议》，条陈战守之策。其词抒写力图恢复国家统一的爱国热情，倾诉壮志难酬的悲愤，对当时执政者的屈辱求和颇多谴责；也有不少吟咏祖国河山的作品。题材广阔又善化用前人典故入词，风格沉雄豪迈又不乏细腻柔媚之处。由于辛弃疾的抗金主张与当政的主和派政见不合，后被弹劾落职，退隐江西带湖。
