译文
五月里梅子开始发黄，蚕事完毕，桑柘叶也被采空了。
鲁地人重视纺织，家家窗里透出机抒声。
只因为我不能走上仕途，为学剑术来到山东。
举起马鞭向人打听路，却不料受到汶上老翁的嘲讽。
下愚之辈轻视有为的壮士，怎值得以此判断穷困与亨通？
我能像鲁仲连那样绑信在箭上，获得攻下服城的大功。
最终不肯接受君主的封赏，只因羞与世俗之人相同。
我将要踏上大道向西奔往长安，哪怕落日被阴虹遮掩得一片昏蒙。
此去用不着你向我多说什么，我甘心如飘转的飞蓬！
注释
⑴东鲁：指初唐时由鲁郡改置的兖州（在今山东省境内）。李白曾寓家兖州的任城县。汶上：即汶水之上。君：一作“翁”。此诗题下原注：“鲁中”。
⑵始：一作“子”。蚕凋：蚕已成茧。桑、柘，落叶的乔木和灌木，叶子可以养蚕。
⑶栊：挂帘的窗户。
⑷顾余不及仕：回想起我没有出仕做官时。
⑸学剑：李白曾从著名剑术家裴显在山东学习剑术。山东：指太行山以东。
⑹获笑：被人耻笑。汶上翁：汶水边的老翁。
⑺下愚：儒家分人二等，以天生愚蠢而不可改变的人为下愚。《论语·阳货》：“唯上知与下愚不移。”此指汶上翁。忽：轻视。壮士：李白自指。
⑻穷：指政治上失意；通：指政治上得志。穷通即政治上的得与失。
⑼我以一箭书，能取聊城功：此句用典故，典出《史记·鲁仲连邹阳列传》。战国时期，齐国的聊城被燕国占领，齐王命大将田单收复聊城，苦战一年多，伤亡大量士卒，仍无法攻下。当时齐国名士鲁仲连写了一封信，绑在箭上射进聊城城里，燕国守将看了信便自杀了，齐军轻取聊城。齐王准备封赏鲁仲连，鲁仲连却归隐去了，不接受封赏。李白用此典说明自己想干一番事业，却又不追求功名利禄。
⑽直道：通衡大道。
⑾阴虹：喻指奸臣。杨齐贤曰：“阴虹，指林甫、国忠辈昏蔽其君。”
⑿此：一作“我”。转蓬：随风旋转的蓬草之。

五月东鲁行答汶上君创作背景
根据裴斐《李白年谱简编》，此诗当是唐玄宗开元二十四载（736年）李白初游东鲁时之作。当时李白寓家兖州任城。

五月东鲁行答汶上君鉴赏
此诗分前后两节。前节八句，着重描写了初抵东鲁时的真实感受。“五月梅始黄，蚕凋桑柘空”两句点明时间，梅子开始由青变黄，蚕桑之事已了，这就意味着进入了生产的第二道工序：东鲁的城乡妇女，又投入新的劳动：纺织。东鲁人有重织作的传统，李白初次旅游就获得了良好印象。
李白从二十五岁经三峡出蜀，历湖北、江西、江苏、河南、山西等地，这时还没有机会出仕。“顾余不及仕，学剑来山东”两句正是诗人当时思想情况的写实。李白回顾自己南北奔走的生活历程，决定到东鲁定居。读书、学剑是李白的两大生活爱好。“举鞭访前途，获笑汶上翁”中的“访前途”有问路和了解今后出路的两层意思。李白初抵东鲁，访路途卜前程时，遇到了不愉快的事，他受到了汶水上一个老翁的嘲笑。但李白没有写出“笑”的内容，有意留下一个悬念。
后节十句，是李白对汶上翁嘲笑的明快答复，是全诗的重点部分和精彩片段。在李白看来，“下愚”们不能理解“壮士”的胸怀，也没有资格在“穷通”的问题上发议论。“穷通”即“穷达”，是为了押韵需要，改“达”为“通”。李白对“穷达”的理解，完全是从儒家思想出发。李白力争在政治上获得出路，先实现“兼济天下”的理想，然后归隐江湖，“独善一身”。李白这种思想，正和战国时期的鲁仲连是一致的：李白用鲁仲连的事迹，比喻自己的政治才能和抱负，是因为鲁仲连的故事就发生在山东。
李白来东鲁前就曾有西游长安的打算，后来转而向东，不料初抵鲁郡就遭到汶上老翁的嘲笑，李白这时有“西归”之意，但他想到自己“直道”而行的人生态度如不改变，是很难得到朝廷重用的。
“此去尔勿言，甘心为转蓬”两句是李白对汶上翁表示：“你的谈话没有任何意义，请不要说了，直道而行是我的一贯作风，即使像飞蓬那样示意飘转，我也是心甘情愿的。”
对汶上翁讥笑的回答，是李白高尚品格生动的艺术概括。他首先把讥笑者同自己作了尖锐的对比，然后明确提出自己从事政治活动在不同情况下的原则立场。诗中塑造了鲁仲连这样一个功成不受赏的高士形象，其实这也是李白自己的形象写照。

李白（701年－762年），字太白，号青莲居士，唐朝浪漫主义诗人，被后人誉为“诗仙”。祖籍陇西成纪(待考)，出生于西域碎叶城，4岁再随父迁至剑南道绵州。李白存世诗文千余篇，有《李太白集》传世。762年病逝，享年61岁。其墓在今安徽当涂，四川江油、湖北安陆有纪念馆。
