译文
早春时节，南面朝阳的梅枝才开了两三朵花，正好又下了一场雪，我在月下雪地里体味梅花散发的清香味，赏玩梅花洁白的颜色。
那初开的白梅花，浓淡深浅有别，夜雾和月色附着在那色浓的花朵上，犹如笼罩着寒冷的水一般，附着在色淡的花朵上，就像笼罩着明净的沙子一般。

南枝：向南的梅枝。
弄：赏玩。粉：白色。此处指梅花的白颜色。
著：附着，穿着。
笼：笼罩。
早春创作背景
这首诗具体创作年代已不可考，但根据诗意可知，这首诗是是在早春时游览而作。

早春鉴赏
此诗是通过梅花来歌咏早春的，因为梅花在春天开得最早。首句写梅花之早。“南枝”，因为向阳，所以南枝上的梅花最早开放。“才放”，刚刚开放，也是说花开得早。“两三花”，只开了两三朵花，还是说花开得早。
次句写花香花色。“雪里”仍然说明花开之早，因为春天到来了，稍晚一点，就没有雪了。“吟香弄粉”是说诗人在雪中仔细吟诵与赏玩着梅花的香气以及花蕊、花瓣的形状与颜色，这四个字显然采用了互文的修辞手法。“些”虽无实在意义，但是起了押韵的作用。
后两句写梅花开放的环境，它们显然化用了唐代诗人杜牧《泊秦淮》中的名句“烟笼寒水月笼沙”，创造出一种朦胧美，同时又将花、雪、烟、月、水、沙连成一片。诗人不仅欣赏梅花，也欣赏了梅花周围诗情画意的环境。换句话说，诗人在诗情画意的环境里欣赏梅花，自然会别有一番情趣。这两句在对仗方面也下了不少工夫，不仅三、四两句相互之间对得非常工整，而且各句又分别采用了句中对的形式，这就增强了诗歌的节奏感。
宋陶岳《五代史补》卷三说了个一字师的故事：“时郑谷在袁州，齐己因携所为诗往谒焉。有《早梅》诗曰：‘前村深雪里，昨夜数枝开。’谷笑谓曰：‘数枝非早也，不如一枝则佳。’齐己矍然，不觉兼三衣，叩地膜拜，自是士林以谷为齐己一字之师。”从强调“早”的角度来说，郑谷无疑是正确的，但不一定符合实际情况。从欣赏梅花的角度看，“南枝才放两三枝”既强调了“早”，同时更有观赏价值，也比较符合实际情况，所以此诗也自有它的生命力。

白玉蟾（1194 - ？），南宋时人，祖籍福建闽清，生于海南琼州，内丹理论家。南宗的实际创立者，创始金丹派南宗，金丹派南五祖之一。生卒年待考，原名葛长庚，本姓葛，名长庚。字如晦，号琼琯，自称神霄散史，海南道人，琼山老人，武夷散人。幼聪慧，谙九经，能诗赋，长于书画，12岁时举童子科，作《织机》诗；才华横溢，著作甚丰。自幼从陈楠学丹法，嘉定五年（1212）八月秋，再遇陈楠于罗浮山，得授金丹火候诀并五雷大法。
