译文
全然找不到来龙去脉，只见一座高峰突然出现，高可入云，直插南斗星。
桂林山水本来就十有八九奇绝卓异，而独秀峰更是首屈一指。
几百级阶梯拾级而上才到达它的峰巅，尽览全城风光，但见轻雾迷漫，碧波荡漾。
青山尚且可以矗立如琴弦，人生孤立无援又有何妨碍！
注释
独秀峰：位于桂林市中心，以平地孤拔，无他峰相对，故名。
来龙去脉：旧时堪舆（风水先生）以山势为龙，以山势起伏连绵为龙脉。
南斗：星宿名，在南天。
伤：妨碍。
独秀峰鉴赏
《独秀峰》是袁枚晚年重游桂林所作，虽然诸家选评赏析极少，几乎被人遗忘，但细读之，仍然可以从中鲜明地感受到“性灵”说的审美追求。
题名为“独秀峰”，但诗人并未平铺直叙，作一般性的平实说明，而是以“来龙去脉绝无有，突然一峰插南斗”这种突兀的笔触，夸饰性的语言，横空劈来。一个“插”字，逼真地写出诗人与独秀峰不期而遇时敏锐而又独特的审美感受，显示了独秀峰的动态美；也生动地突现出独秀峰孤峰横插、直冲云霄的不凡气势。同时，还由孤立的山，联想到孤立的人生，发出青山尚且劲直、人生何必感伤的兴叹，表达了一种积极、乐观、向上的情怀。
这首诗极言独秀峰孤兀参天，并寄寓了孤高自守的高尚追求。作者先写从远处遥望独秀峰，好似插入青天的利剑，高峻笔直，甲天下的桂林山水奇景多多，却远不如这一峰雄伟奇特。拾级而上，俯视天下，一城烟水浩渺无边，胸襟亦为之开阔。观景生情，奇景感染着像独秀峰一般孤高傲岸清俊的诗人。前三联蓄足情势，尾联水到渠成抒发了的豪迈感慨。
这首诗歌化静为动，以动写静，增强动感，化无形为有形，赋予静态的独秀峰以动感的形象，展现了“绝无有”的“插南斗”之势。“插”字用得妙，妙在化静为动，山由无到有、到直冲云天的过程被动态的呈现出来，生动形象地描写了独秀峰的独特姿态。

袁枚（1716－1797）清代诗人、散文家。字子才，号简斋，晚年自号仓山居士、随园主人、随园老人。汉族，钱塘（今浙江杭州）人。乾隆四年进士，历任溧水、江宁等县知县，有政绩，四十岁即告归。在江宁小仓山下筑筑随园，吟咏其中。广收诗弟子，女弟子尤众。袁枚是乾嘉时期代表诗人之一，与赵翼、蒋士铨合称“乾隆三大家”。
