越安定以容与兮，遵长城之漫漫。剧蒙公之疲民兮，为强秦乎筑怨。舍高亥之切忧兮，事蛮狄之辽患。不耀德以绥远，顾厚固而缮藩。首身分而不寤兮，犹数功而辞鱤。何夫子之妄说兮，孰云地脉而生残。
登鄣隧而遥望兮，聊须臾以婆娑。闵獯鬻之猾夏兮，吊尉漖于朝那。从圣文之克让兮，不劳师而币加。惠父兄于南越兮，黜帝号于尉他。降几杖于藩国兮，折吴濞之逆邪。惟太宗之荡荡兮，岂曩秦之所图。
隮高平而周览，望山谷之嵯峨。野萧条以莽荡，迥千里而无家。风猋发以漂遥兮，谷水灌以扬波。飞云雾之杳杳，涉积雪之皑皑。雁邕邕以群翔兮，□鸡鸣以哜哜。
游子悲其故乡，心怆悢以伤怀。抚长剑而慨息，泣涟落而沾衣。揽余涕以于邑兮，哀生民之多故。夫何阴曀之不阳兮，嗟久失其平度。谅时运之所为兮，永伊郁其谁愬？
乱曰：夫子固穷游艺文兮，乐以忘忧惟圣贤兮？达人从事有仪则兮，行止屈申与时息兮？君子履信无不居兮，虽之蛮貊何忧惧兮？
北征赋鉴赏
公元23年，刘玄称帝高阳，王莽死，刘玄迁都长安，年号更始。公元25年，赤眉入关，刘玄被杀。在这时期中，班彪远避凉州，从长安出发，至安定，写了这篇《北征赋》。
《北征赋》是一篇纪行赋，为班彪的代表作，在纪行赋的发展过程中具有重要地位，它继承《楚辞》、《遂初赋》等创作传统，在继承中又有变化，对后世纪行赋的创作有较大的影响。
《北征赋》纪述他在西汉末的动乱中离长安至天水避乱的行程。结构模仿刘歆的《遂初赋》，也是结合途中所见景物与有关的史事，抒发感想。由于时事更为艰难，所表现的情绪也更显悲沉。它的语言精丽整齐，其中写景的一段（从“隮高平而周览”到“哀生民之多故”），则显得清新自然。这种描写洋溢着作者的真实感情，而且是写实的笔法，不同于《上林赋》等那种夸张的罗列。此前《遂初赋》的写景，也已经有这样的特点。它们直接启发了后代抒情小赋对自然景色的描写。
如果拿《北征赋》与楚辞部分作品、《遂初赋》等相比较，就可以看出在结构上存在一些在继承中又有发展变化的特点。
（一）抒情方式由浪漫主义向现实主义的转变。《九章》中的作品多纪实之辞，《涉江》一诗又是写他放逐生活中最凄苦的一段经历，但诗的开始却采用了与《离骚》相类似的浪漫主义手法，表现他的极端苦闷，欲忍不能的感情。《涉江》的后半部分以及乱辞，也是采用的浪漫主义手法。特别是乱辞部分，采用香草美人的托喻，与《离骚》的写法一致。《北征赋》中，无论交待起行原因，还是描写景色都从实际出发，即使是乱辞部分，也抛却了香草美人的托喻手法，采用更为直接的抒情方式。
（二）写景与抒情由分离到逐渐紧密的结合。《涉江》中的景物描写，虽然能够表现作者的凄苦情怀，但景与情从整体上还显疏远，还有着为写景而写景的嫌疑。《遂初赋》和《北征赋》写景与抒情结合的较为紧密，特别是《北征赋》，写景能从作者的感情基调出发，更好的表现了作者感时伤世之情怀。
（三）借助历史事实抒情方面，由情与史的分离到逐渐紧密的结合。《涉江》的整个第四部分，都在叙写历史上忠而见弃的人物，以表达作者自己“余将董道而不豫兮，固将重昏而终身”之情。而《北征赋》则没有相应的部分。此赋是在纪行的过程中，将史实与感情紧密的结合了起来，而不再是单独列为一部分去叙写。
（四）乱辞部分也发生了较大的变化。由《涉江》对君主忠诚不二的感情抒发，到《遂初》的以道家出世思想作结，抒发自己恬淡的自娱之情，再到《北征赋》以君子固穷而守节的儒家思想的抒发，其发展轨迹是鲜明的。
作为纪行赋的成熟之作，《北征赋》确实表现出了与其在赋史地位上一致的优点。交待起行原因之简洁，借景抒情之恰切，叙史抒情结合之紧密，抒发感情之真挚，语言之平易晓畅，都是《涉江》、《遂初》所不能比拟的。萧统《文选》选赋，纪行一门首选《北征赋》；清人陈元龙《历代赋汇》亦列其为纪行赋第一篇。可见二人同选《北征赋》列为首篇，并非偶然。

班彪字叔皮。扶风安陵（今陕西咸阳东北）人。出生于官宦世家，从小好古敏求，与其兄班嗣游学不辍，才名渐显。西汉末年，为避战乱至天水，依附于隗嚣，欲劝说隗嚣归依汉室，作《王命论》感化之，结果未能如愿。后至河西（今河西走廊一带 ） ， 为大将军窦融从事 ， 劝窦融支持光武帝。东汉初，举茂才，任徐县令，因病免官。班彪学博才高，专力从事于史学著述。写成《后传》60余篇，斟酌前史，纠正得失，为后世所重。其子班固修成《汉书》，史料多依班彪，实际上是他修史工作的继续。其女班昭等又补充固所未及完成者。
