将要追随将军去攻取右贤，战场上纵马飞驰奔向居延。
悬想汉家使者在萧关之外，定愁见孤城独立落日旁边。
注释
韦评事：不详其人。评事，官名。
逐：追随。取：俘获。右贤：即右贤王，汉时匈奴族对其贵族的封号。匈奴贵族有左贤王、右贤王之号，右贤王亦省称为“右贤”。
沙场：平沙旷野。后多指战场。走马：骑马疾走；驰逐。居延：古边塞名。汉初，居延为匈奴南下凉州的要道。太初三年（前102年），派遣路博德于此筑塞，以防匈奴入侵，故名遮卤（虏）障。遗址在今内蒙古额济纳旗东南。
遥知：谓在远处知晓情况。汉使：此指韦评事。萧关：古关名。故址在今宁夏固原东南，为自关中通向塞北的交通要冲。
孤城：边远的孤立城寨或城镇。

这首《送韦评事》载于《民国固原县志》，是王维在送别友人到边塞从军时所创作的，具体创作时间不详。

送韦评事鉴赏
此诗前两句“欲逐将军取右贤，沙场走马向居延”，热情鼓励友人从军，杀敌立功，写得很有气势，表现了昂扬向上的情调。这些豪迈激昂、慷慨雄壮的诗句，极具浪漫色彩，颇为震撼人心，既是对边塞将士的高度赞颂，也是诗人进取精神的生动体现。后两句“遥知汉使萧关外，愁见孤城落日边”则把笔锋一转，写塞外萧索悲凉的景象所引起的思乡愁情。其中“孤城”“落日”两个意象形象生动地展示出一片雄阔的景象，同时也描绘出边地的荒凉。其意境与“大漠孤烟直，长河落日圆”（《使至塞上》）甚为相似，充分体现了王维诗歌“诗中有画”的特点。
全诗这种突转笔锋的写法看似突兀，但作者把从军者立功边塞和思乡怀归这两种特有的心理统一在这首小诗里，用笔凝练，因而具有一定的代表性，并给人以一种悲壮的美感。

王维（701年－761年，一说699年—761年），字摩诘，汉族，河东蒲州（今山西运城）人，祖籍山西祁县，唐朝诗人，有“诗佛”之称。苏轼评价其：“味摩诘之诗，诗中有画；观摩诘之画，画中有诗。”开元九年（721年）中进士，任太乐丞。王维是盛唐诗人的代表，今存诗400余首，重要诗作有《相思》《山居秋暝》等。王维精通佛学，受禅宗影响很大。佛教有一部《维摩诘经》，是王维名和字的由来。王维诗书画都很有名，非常多才多艺，音乐也很精通。与孟浩然合称“王孟”。
