译文
夕阳照在城墙的一角，我端起酒杯劝说您留下。京城离这里太远了，为什么还要穿着破旧的衣服冒着艰辛赶去呢？我担心你像苏秦一样盘缠用尽，还会遭到妻子的埋怨，不如早点归来，与沙鸥亲近为好。明晚月色下，你就要带着满身的离愁乘船而去。
追逐功名利禄，恐怕是到老了以后才会罢休吧？饱读诗书，应该像古代的伊尹和周公一样为国事操劳。不要效仿班超投笔从戎，即使能够万里封侯，也会长期的滞留边疆，到老才能回来。在哪里可以找到可以依附的人呢？只怕是空自孤独寂寞，作《登楼赋》那样思念家乡的文章。
注释
敝貂裘：破旧的貂皮衣服
秦楼：汉乐府《陌上桑》：“日出东南隅，照我秦氏楼。”此以罗敷女指代妻室。
狎沙鸥：与沙鸥相近，指隐居生涯。
致身：出仕做官
伊周：伊尹和周公，二人都是古代著名的贤相。
班超投笔：《后汉书 班超传》东汉班超家境穷困，在官府做抄写工作，曾经掷笔长叹说，大丈夫应当在边疆为国立功，像傅介子张骞一样，哪能老在笔砚之间讨生活呢！

这首词约作于南宋孝宗淳熙元年（1174）冬天，当时辛弃疾正在江东安抚司参议官任上，友人辞别前往临安，词人作此词送友人。

水调歌头·落日古城角鉴赏
词上片充满对友人的不舍之情，对友人之远行表示担忧。“落日古城角，把酒劝君留。”二句开篇点题，直接劝告友人不要远行。“长安路远，何事风雪敝貂裘。散尽黄金身世，不管秦楼人怨，归计狎沙鸥。”五句都是词人为友人感到担心，即言前路之艰难，又怕友人时运不济，像当年入秦的苏秦一样，最终落魄而归，招致亲戚朋友的冷落。用“归计狎沙鸥”的归隐山林之路，反衬追求功名利禄的道路上充满了艰难险阻。上片末句表达的是对友人一心向往功名富贵的感叹。
下片“诗书万卷，致身须到古伊周。”，肯定了友人杰出的才学，希望友人此行能够获得成功，像伊尹和周公一样成为国之栋梁。同时词人又说“莫学班超投笔，纵得封侯万里，憔悴老边州。”，劝慰友人不要一味为了功名富贵而像班超一样，有家难回。结尾处“何处依刘客，寂寞赋登楼。”，乃是作者联系自身的境遇，自比王桀，感叹自己身似浮萍，漂泊不定，空自思乡，落得孤独寂寞。
这首词充满了一种悲慨之情，通篇都是对友人求仕的劝解之辞，但实际上却是对朝廷不能重GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>用人才，埋没人才，使友人和自己这样的有识之士壮志难酬，英雄无用武之地的讽刺与悲愤。

辛弃疾（1140－1207），南宋词人。原字坦夫，改字幼安，别号稼轩，汉族，历城（今山东济南）人。出生时，中原已为金兵所占。21岁参加抗金义军，不久归南宋。历任湖北、江西、湖南、福建、浙东安抚使等职。一生力主抗金。曾上《美芹十论》与《九议》，条陈战守之策。其词抒写力图恢复国家统一的爱国热情，倾诉壮志难酬的悲愤，对当时执政者的屈辱求和颇多谴责；也有不少吟咏祖国河山的作品。题材广阔又善化用前人典故入词，风格沉雄豪迈又不乏细腻柔媚之处。由于辛弃疾的抗金主张与当政的主和派政见不合，后被弹劾落职，退隐江西带湖。
