傍晚时分，湘江水流在暮霭的笼罩之下更加浩渺，两岸漫无边际的芦苇连接着广袤的田野。
严冬快要过去了，大雁冲起云梦泽的积雪，准备往北飞去了。在这样的日子里，友人来到洞庭湖边登上了北去的航船。
友人归去，一路上将日夜兼程。白天劈波斩浪，顺着水势依山而转；夜里仰望星河，望着星空笼罩着浩瀚的洞庭湖面。
梅花凋零腊月将尽，友人回到家刚好赶上新年，与家人团聚将是多么幸福啊。
注释
楚：湘江流域在古时候为楚国的属地，故称楚。田：一作“天”。
去雁：北飞的大雁。云梦：云梦泽，在今洞庭湖北岸，湖南、湖北两省境内。雪：一作“泽”。
转：指友人所乘之船，终日在风浪中行转。
星汉：银河。
零落梅花过残腊：一作“回首羡君偏有我”。腊：腊月，阴历十二月。
归醉及新年：一作“归去又新年”，一作“归去醉新年”。醉：沉浸。

湘口送友人鉴赏
这是一首送别诗，写诗人在湘江入洞庭湖的渡口送别友人。全诗大半写景，不见伤别字面，只是将一片离情融入景中。
首联、颔联写“湘口”所见：先是放眼湘江水岸，看到暮霭、芦苇、田野；接着远眺云梦，但见飞雪、去雁；最后注目孤舟离人。诗的前三句，境界阔大，气象雄浑。“中流欲暮见湘烟”，“中流”即江心，这是江面宽阔的地方，此时在暮霭的笼罩下更显得苍苍莽莽。“岸苇无穷接楚田”，“楚田”即田野，春秋战国时期湘江流域为楚地；“岸苇无穷”已有深远之意，再与“楚田”相接，极写其空旷广袤。“去雁远冲云梦雪”，“云梦”是有名的大泽，在洞庭湖以北的湖南、湖北境内，孟浩然曾以“气蒸云梦泽”（《临洞庭上张丞相》）来状写它的壮伟，这里则以“云梦雪”来表现同样的境界。经过此番描画之后，方才拈出第四句点题：“离人独上洞庭船”。此句一出，景语皆成情语。飞雪暮霭，迷漫着一种凄冷压抑的氛围；四野茫茫，更显出离人的伶仃；大雁孤飞，象征着友人旅途的寂寞艰辛。作者或用正面烘托，或用反面映衬，或用比兴之法，寄寓自己的伤别之情。这里，诗人并没有直接表达心绪，只是将几组景物纳入同一画面之中，使它们发生内在的联系，通过画面显示特定的意境。这样，既有壮阔生动的自然景象，又有深邃内在的个人情致，达到了情景交融的艺术境界。
颈联“风波尽日依山转，星汉通霄向水悬”写洞庭湖的景象，并非实写，而是由“洞庭船”引发的想象，故而在时间上并不承上，“暮”、“雪”不见了。这两句是说，洞庭湖波翻浪涌，奔流不息，入夜，则星河璀璨，天色湖水连成一片。洞庭湖是浩瀚而美丽的，然而诗人此写并不是出自对洞庭奇观的激赏，风波之中，星汉之下，始终有着孤舟离人。因而，他对洞庭湖水的描绘，流露着对友人一路艰辛的关切，而有关星河高悬的遐想，则是对孤舟夜渡的遥念。诗人的这种情思同样不是直接表达出来的，而是通过孤舟离人和洞庭景象这前后两幅画面的巧妙组接来加以体现的。
尾联“零落梅花过残腊，故园归去又新年”是说友人归去当及新年，而自己却不能回去。“零落梅花”是诗人自况，也是一景。由腊月而想到梅花，由“残”而冠以“零落”，取景设喻妙在自然含蓄。此联固然表现了诗人的自伤之意，但同时也表现了念友之情，因为诗人之所以感到孤独，完全是由友人的别离引起的，故而这种自伤正是对友人的依恋。
李频以描写自然景物见长，这首诗堪称其代表作。全诗八句倒有七句写景，湘江的暮霭，江岸的芦苇、田野，云梦的飞雪、大雁，渡口的孤舟、离人，洞庭的风波、星河，以及腊月的梅花，等等，真是纷至沓来，目不暇接。诗文有所谓“主宾”一说，主是中心，“无主之宾，谓之乌合”（王夫之《姜斋诗话》）。在这首诗中，作者把孤舟离人放在中心的位置上，围绕这个中心层层设景；又从孤舟离人逗出情思，把诸多景物有机地串联起来。故而全诗显得章法齐整，中心突出，而且融情入景，与一味作感伤语的送别诗不同，自有一番悠悠远思的风韵。

李频（818—876），字德新，唐大中元年(847)，唐寿昌长汀源人（今建德李家镇）葬于永乐(今李家)，唐代后期诗人。幼读诗书，博览强记，领悟颇多。寿昌县令 穆君 游灵栖洞，即景吟诗：“一径入双崖，初疑有几家。行穷人不见，坐久日空斜”。得此四句后稍顿未续。时李频从行，续吟：“石上生灵笋，池中落异花。终须结茅屋，到此学餐霞。”穆君大为赞赏。但此诗根据史学家考证是李频本人所作。
