期待你更加严饬风范箴规，他日回朝廷重振纲纪威仪。
叹息我这老病之身，此一别恐将永诀。
到时候你骑着白马来吊，我在黄泉下或难知晓。
徒劳你解下腰间的宝剑，空挂在我坟墓的枝头。
注释
毛永嘉：即毛喜（516—587），字伯武。为人方正不苟，直言敢谏，因得罪陈后主而放为永嘉内史。
厉：磨炼，砥砺。风规：节操、风范。
振：整肃。羽仪：本指仪仗中以羽毛为装饰的旌旗之类，此指纲纪法度。
长离：长久离别，即永别。
这两句用后汉范式、张劭事。《后汉书·范式传》：“范式字巨卿……与汝南张劭为友。邵字元伯……（张劭）寻而卒，式忽梦见元伯玄冕垂缨展履而呼曰：‘巨卿，吾以某日死，当以尔时葬，永归黄泉……’式帆然觉寤，悲叹泣下，具告太守，请往奔丧……式末及到，而丧己发引，既至圹，将窆，而柩不肯进……移时，乃见有素车白马，号哭而来……式因执绋而引，柩于是乃前。”
陇头：即垄头，坟头。末二句用季札挂剑故事。春秋时，吴延陵季子聘晋，路过徐国，徐君爱季子所佩宝剑，希望季子送给他，但是不好意思说出口。季子从他的表情看出了他的心思，但出使大国，一时不方便相送，便打定主意从晋国回来就将剑赠送给徐君。但是当他再经过徐国时徐君已经死去,他便将宝剑挂在徐君的墓树上而去。

别毛永嘉创作背景
这首诗是徐陵辞别好友永嘉内史毛喜时所写，大约作于开皇二年（582），徐陵辞官先归，深感自己年老多病，恐这次分别将成永别，所以写下这首诗。

别毛永嘉鉴赏
这是作者别毛先归的留赠之作。
全诗八句，分两层。前四句写生前，后四句写死后。第一层，一、二两句写对毛喜的勉励，希望他砥砺风骨，恪守规范，为乡梓树立典型，为士林作出表率；三、四两句写自己的慨叹，为自己老境颓唐，病魔困扰，今此一别。恐成永诀而感叹。粗粗一看，这前后两句似乎有些互不相关。实则后者正直承前者而来。其之所以要对毛喜讲一番发自肺腑的临别赠言，是由于自己老病侵寻，后会难期，这才语重心长，殷殷叮咛，表示对老友的厚望。
第二层写死后。这只是作者的一种设想，这种设想是从第一层意思中引申出来的。诗人说，如果我在生前不对你提出要求，那么我死之后，即使你敦重友谊，像后汉范式驾着素车白马赶来祭奠亡友张劭那样来凭吊我，可是我已葬身地下，怎还能知道些什么。即使你也像春秋时季札那样，没有忘怀徐国国君心爱其剑的事，仍然在路经徐国时将剑送去，可是徐君已经死了，只是徒劳无益地把剑空挂在墓前的树枝上罢了。
全诗婉转蕴藉的情思，苍凉沉郁的格调，激越回荡的韵昧，读来令人伤怀。诗中用典浅近易解，如羽仪、白马、黄泉、挂剑等，或为世人所熟知，或为名作所习用，虽不注明出处，亦能联系上下文，从字面上获悉其用意所在。此种使事而不掉书袋、练句而不堆词藻的写法，确实值得称道。诗仅用字四十，一笔写下友谊的纯笃、身世的凄凉。其中“白马君来吊，黄泉我讵知”一联，系按流水格属对，意贯思邈，可见功力之深、构思之巧。

徐陵（507～583）字孝穆，东海郯（今山东郯城）人，徐摛之子。南朝梁陈间的诗人，文学家。早年即以诗文闻名。八岁能文，十二岁通《庄子》、《老子》。长大后，博涉史籍，有口才。梁武帝萧衍时期，任东宫学士，常出入禁闼，为当时宫体诗人，与庾信齐名，并称“徐庾”,与宋朝郭茂倩并称“乐府双壁。”入陈后历任尚书左仆射，中书监等职，继续宫体诗创作，诗文皆以轻靡绮艳见称。至德元年去世，时年七十七，赠镇右将军、特进，其侍中、左光禄、鼓吹、侯如故，谥曰章。 有四子：徐俭，徐份，徐仪，徐僔。
