刘昉，字方明，潮阳（今属广东）人。徽宗宣和六年（一一二四）进士（《南宋馆阁录》卷八）。高宗绍兴十年（一一四○），为实录院检讨官，因事罢。以秦桧荐，为荆湖南路转运副使，改知潭州，兼湖南安抚使。自十三年至十八年，三知潭州。事见《建炎以来系年要录》卷一二七、一三七、一五五、一五七。

此花迥绝他花，湘中不减吴中盛。疑从太华，分来岳麓，根荄玉井。炬列千红，盖擎万绿，织成云锦。向壶天清暑，风梳露洗，尘不染、香成阵。好似一番雨过，似轻鬟、晚临妆镜。阿环浴罢，珠横翠乱，芳肌犹润。载月同游，隔花共语，酒边清兴。问六郎、凝伫多时，公不饮、俗几甚。
