袁袠（zhì）（1502—1547）字永之，号胥台山人，南直隶苏州府吴县（今属江苏）人，袁鼏第四子。生于明孝宗弘治十五年，卒于世宗嘉靖二十六年，年四十六岁。五岁知书，七岁赋诗有奇语，廿四岁乡试解元，明年考进士，张璁先看到他的考卷，非常赏识，力主取他为状元。但其余考官误以为这份考卷出于他的党羽之手，就共同商议，把他压低为二甲一名进士。榜发后，张璁见到袁袠，道出缘由，不料袁袠耿直，既不道谢，更不答理，张璁大怒。后来袁袠主持河南乡试，以选拔得人著称。
