译文
船行到江心的时候抬头远望，只见两岸的景色清晰地映照在辽阔的水面上。
扬子驿盖在树林的开阔处，而对面的润州城则矗立在群山中。
海的尽头岸边上阴暗幽静，江面上来自北方的秋风吹起了阵阵的寒意。
在枫叶掉落的淅沥声中，带来了秋天的讯息。
注释
扬子江：因有扬子津渡口，所以从隋炀帝时起，南京以下长江水域，即称为扬子江。近代则通称长江为扬子江。
桂楫：用桂木做成的船桨。指船只。中流：渡水过半。指江心。
空波：广大宽阔的水面。明：清晰。
扬子驿：即扬子津渡口边上的驿站，在长江北岸。属江苏省江都县。
润州城：在长江南岸，与扬子津渡口隔江相望。属江苏省镇江县。
边阴静：指海边阴暗幽静。
朔吹：指北风。吹读第四声，原作合奏的声音解，此处指北风的呼呼声。
淅沥：指落叶的声音。度：传过来。
渡扬子江鉴赏
这是诗人从长江北岸的扬子驿坐船渡江到南岸的感怀之作。此诗写的是秋景：船儿随波漂流，晚秋的天空与水都很清净，扬子驿在树林中闪现出来，润州坐卧在起伏的山冈之中，海边和江边都是寒意浓浓，枫树叶落，传来淅沥之声。从江北的“林开扬子驿”到江南的“山出润州城”，读者似乎看见一条渡船正由北向南开来，还分明见到了诗人立在船头前后眺望的形象。末二句写船近江南，秋声淅沥，用一“度”字，很形象地写出了岸上落叶声飘过江面，送进船上诗人耳中的情景。全诗以“望”字贯通全篇，情文并茂，画面清新，构思巧妙，是一篇不可多得的佳作。
当年曹操在广陵（今扬州市）看到长江水面辽阔，水势汹涌，直呼为“天堑”，是“天之所以限南北也”。宋朝以前政治、文化、经济的中心在黄河流域的河南、山西、陕西一带，长江下游以南的地区尚少开发，所以常被视为边陲地区，对做官的人来说，派赴江南是一件无可奈何的事，诗人也不例外。这首诗的前四句写景还算平稳，没有情绪上的反应，但是到了后四句情绪就开始波动了。他到了南岸，发现江边是荒凉阴暗的，江风带有寒气，再加上落叶淅沥的枫树林，诗人突然感受到萧瑟的秋天来了。其实秋天是由北而南的，诗人在扬子驿的时候没有察觉，而到了对岸就感受到这股秋意，这是有原因的。说起来他不是害怕节气上的秋天，而是担心前程上的寒意，因此触景伤情，兴起无名的烦恼，这是受到“得失心”的影响。
