若石居冥山之阴，有虎恒窥其藩。若石帅家人昼夜警：日出而殷钲，日入而举辉，筑墙掘坎以守。卒岁虎不能有获。一日，虎死，若石大喜，自以为虎死无毒己者矣。于是弛其惫，墙坏而不葺。无何，有貙闻其牛羊豕之声而入食焉。若石不知其为貙也，斥之不走。貙人立而爪之毙。人曰：若石知其一而不知其二，其死也宜。
译文： 若石隐居在冥山的山北，有老虎经常蹲在他的篱笆外窥视。若石率领他的家人日夜警惕。日出的时候敲响金属，日落的时候就点起篝火，筑墙、挖坑来防守。一年结束了，老虎不能有所捕获。一天老虎死了，若石很开心，自己认为老虎死了就没有对自己形成危害的动物了。从此，他放松了警惕和防备，墙坏了不补，篱笆坏了也不修。忽然有一天，有一只貙听到他家的牛羊猪的声音就进去并吃它们。若石不知道它是貙，赶它走，但貙并不离开；貙像人一样站立起来用爪子抓死了他。有人说：若石只知道其中一个而不知道另一个，他死了也活该。
注释： 阴：山的北面。恒：常常，经常。窥：窥视，偷看。藩：篱笆。帅：同“率”，率领。警：警惕。卒：终，完毕，结束。岁：年。毒：危害。弛：放松，放下。葺：修补。无何：不久。貙：一种体小凶猛的野兽。豕：猪。斥：呵斥。走：跑。以：用。人立：像人一样站立。但：只。宜：应该，应当。备：防备。殷钲：敲响金属。举辉：点起篝火。

刘基（1311年7月1日－1375年5月16日）字伯温，谥曰文成，元末明初杰出的军事谋略家、政治家、文学家和思想家，明朝开国元勋，汉族，浙江文成南田（原属青田）人，故时人称他刘青田，明洪武三年（1370）封诚意伯，人们又称他刘诚意。武宗正德九年追赠太师，谥号文成，后人又称他刘文成、文成公。他以神机妙算、运筹帷幄著称于世。刘伯温是中国古代的一位传奇人物，至今在中国大陆、港澳台乃至东南亚、日韩等地仍有广泛深厚的民间影响力。
